Purpose: To compare the surgical outcomes of trabeculectomy with and without anti-metabolites in patients with juvenile open-angle glaucoma (JOAG).

Methods: This retrospective comparative case series included 98 eyes of 66 patients with JOAG who underwent either trabeculectomy without anti-metabolites (group A, n = 53 eyes) or with anti-metabolites (group B, n = 45 eyes) with a minimum of 2 years follow-up. The main outcome measures were intra-ocular pressure (IOP), number of glaucoma medications, visual acuity, additional surgical interventions, surgical complications, and risk factors for failure.

EngA, a GTPase contains two GTP binding domains [GD1, GD2], and the C-terminal KH domain shown to be involved in the later stages of ribosome maturation. Association of EngA to the ribosomal subunit in the intermediate stage of maturation is essential for complete ribosome maturation. However, this association was shown to be dependent on the nucleotide bound combinations.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the ability of a drug curcumin-loaded polymer to inhibit the growth of cervical cancer cells by enhancing the anti-cancer efficiency of curcumin. We synthesized poly(methacryloyl beta-alanine) (PMBA) as a nanocarrier by radical polymerization in supercritical CO. The results showed that the curcumin encapsulated and folic acid (FA)-treated PMBA (Poly@Cur-FA) for 24 h activated the reactive oxygen species-mediated programmed cell death machinery in HeLa cells.

Herein, an efficient photocatalyst composed of graphitic carbon nitrate and iron-based metal-organic framework (g-CN/NH-MIL-101(Fe)) composite was fabricated by a solvothermal method for the degradation of acetaminophen (AAP) and reduction of Cr(VI) under sunlight illumination. The composite was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. UV-visible spectra showed that the bare g-CN, pure Fe-MOF, and composite harvest solar light effectively.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been investigated recently as effective visible light photocatalysts. In this report, we synthesized nickel, iron, and titanium-based MOFs with different oxidation states of metal ions and aminoterephthalic acid ligand for photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye under solar light irradiation. The photoluminescence analysis revealed that the Fe-MOF could suppress the recombination of photoinduced charges and effectively degrade the dye.

Choriocarcinoma, a trophoblastic neoplasia, occurs in women as an incidence of abnormal pregnancy. BeWo choriocarcinoma cells derived from the abnormal placentation are a suitable model system to study the factors associated with differentiation, invasion and other cellular events as an alternative to clinical samples. Many protein kinases orchestrate the complex events of cell cycle and in case of malignancy such regulators are found to be mutated.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a type of RNAs, which are responsible for monitoring the gene expression values. Recent research asserts that miRNAs form some clustering on chromosomes. The miRNAs belonging to a particular cluster are highly similar in terms of their activity and they are termed as "coregulated" miRNAs.

This study was designed to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of three methods for detecting the onset of cyclicity in post-partum Murrah buffaloes. The methods investigated were visual signs, transrectal ultrasonography, and serum progesterone (P) assay. For this study, 102 post-partum Murrah buffalo cows were grouped for monitoring their ovarian activity.

The production of inflammatory mediators by epithelial cells in inflammatory lung diseases may represent an important target for the anti-inflammatory effects of glucocorticoids. Activator protein-1 is a major activator of inflammatory genes and has been proposed as a target for inhibition by glucocorticoids. We have used human pulmonary type-II A549 cells to examine the effect of dexamethasone on the phorbol ester (PMA)/Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced pro-inflammatory cytokines and AP-1 factors.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in reproductive age women and is associated with both reproductive and metabolic abnormalities. Recent studies have demonstrated an early onset of abnormal cardiovascular risk profile in women with PCOS. Abnormal lipid profile patterns are common in women with PCOS, and these abnormalities are not uniform in all populations.

Background: There is significant evidence among the general population regarding the impact of physical activity in improving the quality of life; however, evidence regarding the effect of physical activity in improving fertility and the quality of life in infertile women is inadequate. Existing medical literature shows that moderately regular physical activity positively influences ovarian reserve and assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes in overweight and obese women. It is not known whether moderate physical activity influences ovarian reserve in normal weight reproductive age women, and whether age has any influence on the physical activity related changes in ovarian reserve.

We studied the effect of modified Heatsynch and Ovsynch protocols on the ovulatory response (OR), estrus induction rate (EIR) and conception rate (CR) in the anovular postpartum Murrah buffalo (n = 35). In the modified Heatsynch protocol (Group I; n = 12), buffaloes were given two GnRH at 2 h interval on treatment day 0, PGF (PGF2α) on day 7 and estradiol (E) 1 mg on day 8. Two FTAI were done at 20 h intervals after E administration.

Androgen receptor (AR) signaling axis plays a vital role in the development of prostate and critical in the progression of prostate cancer. Androgen withdrawal initially regresses tumors but eventually develops into aggressive castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Activator Protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factors are most likely to be associated with malignant transformation in prostate cancer.

Cadmium (Cd) is one of the well-known highly toxic environmental and industrial pollutants. Cd first accumulates in the nucleus and later interacts with zinc finger proteins of antiapoptotic genes and inhibit the binding of transcriptional factors and transcription. However, the role of Cd in oxidative stress and apoptosis is less understood.

Steroid hormones and their nuclear receptors play a major role in the development and progression of breast cancer. MCF-7 cells are triple-positive breast cancer cells expressing estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and glucocorticoid receptor (GR). However, interaction and their role in expression pattern of activator protein (AP-1) transcription factors (TFs) are not completely understood.

In recent times, reproductive biotechnologies have emerged and started to replace the conventional techniques. It is noteworthy that for sustained livestock productivity, it is imperative to start using these techniques for facing the increasing challenges for productivity, reproduction and health with impending environment conditions. These recent biotechniques, both in male and female, have revolutionized and opened avenues for studying and manipulating the reproductive process both in vitro and in vivo in various livestock species for improving tis efficiency.

A 3D nanocomposite scaffold of chitosan, gelatin and nano-silica was fabricated by lyophilization to test the hypothesis that incorporation of nano-SiO2 could produce a better candidate for bone tissue engineering compared to pure chitosan and chitosan/gelatin scaffolds. The prepared scaffold was characterized using SEM and FTIR. Porosity, density, swelling, degradation, mechanical integrity, biomineralization and protein adsorption studies, favored it in comparison to the conventional chitosan and chitosan/gelatin scaffolds.
