Background: Few studies have evaluated trends in diet quality across early childhood, including the extent to which foods and beverages available in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Food Package contribute to children's diets.
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the following across ages 2 through 5 years: (1) trends in Healthy Eating Index-2020 (HEI-2020) total and component scores; (2) differences in mean HEI-2020 scores by WIC participation duration; and (3) contributions of the top 5 foods or beverages to HEI-2020 component scores by WIC duration.
Design: This was a secondary analysis of a nationally representative sample of the WIC Infant and Toddler Feeding Practices Study-2 conducted between 2013 and 2019.
Objective: To assess whether the adult Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a cost-effective intervention that generates sustained improvement in biomarkers of chronic disease risk.
Design: A longitudinal quasi-experimental design with 2 parallel arms (untreated comparison vs EFNEP) and 4 waves of data collection (pretest, posttest, 6 months, and 12 months after completion).
Setting: Eligible adult EFNEP community settings in Colorado, Florida, Maryland, and Washington.
This report explores the 24-hour dietary recall (24HDR) form used for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Dietary supplement use, amount of money spent on food, time being physically active, portion size consumed, foods reported by meals, and preparation of the meal were common components collected among 61 EFNEP programs. Components not included were instructions for the peer educator, use of food models/measuring cups, examples of foods/beverages, time food/beverages were consumed, color coding, and a prompt to review what was written.

This cross-sectional, quantitative study utilized an online survey to collect information from EFNEP coordinators representing 61 of 76 EFNEP programs. While 56% of the programs collected the 24HDR data starting with the first thing eaten the previous day, 49% of them started collecting data at the time of class, going backwards.

Similar differences were also observed between the rat anterior pituitary cell line GH3 and primary anterior pituitary cells. We hypothesized that the difference between the transformed and primary cells is due to differential regulation of ZnT-1 or SLC-30A-1 because this is the only zinc efflux transporter localized to the plasma membrane.

To understand the actions of the chelator on cellular zinc status, we observed the effects of DTPA on (65)Zn uptake and retention. DTPA reduced the uptake of (65)Zn by GH3 cells from the medium, but when GH3 cells were prelabeled with (65)Zn, it resulted in greater retention of the isotope.
