The intracellular bacteria, Salmonella Typhi adapts to acidic conditions in the host cell by resetting the chromosomal DNA topology majorly controlled by DNA Gyrase, a Type II topoisomerase. DNA Gyrase forms a heterodimer AB complex, which manages the DNA supercoiling and relaxation in the cell. DNA relaxation forms a part of the regulatory mechanism to activate the transcription of genes required to survive under hostile conditions.

Background: Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) or electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) aerosolize an e-liquid composed of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) as humectants, flavoring chemicals, and nicotine. Nicotine naturally occurs in two isomers R- and S-nicotine, with tobacco-derived nicotine (TDN) composed of S-nicotine, and tobacco-free/synthetic nicotine (TFN) composed of a racemic mixture of R- and S-nicotine. Currently, there is limited knowledge of the potential differences in the toxicity of TFN versus TDN.

Protein misfolding and accumulation defines a prevailing feature of many neurodegenerative disorders, finally resulting in the formation of toxic intra- and extracellular aggregates. Intracellular aggregates can enter the extracellular space and be subsequently transferred among different cell types, thus spreading between connected brain districts.Although microglia perform a predominant role in the removal of extracellular aggregated proteins, mounting evidence suggests that astrocytes actively contribute to the clearing process.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is initiated and sustained by a hierarchy of leukemia stem cells (LSCs), and elimination of this cell population is required for curative therapies. Here we show that transmembrane and immunoglobulin domain containing 2 (TMIGD2), a recently discovered co-stimulatory immune receptor, is aberrantly expressed by human AML cells, and can be used to identify and enrich functional LSCs. We demonstrate that TMIGD2 is required for the development and maintenance of AML and self-renewal of LSCs but is not essential for normal hematopoiesis.
