Background: The study focuses on the use of multi-parametric ultrasound [gray scale, color Doppler and shear wave elastography (SWE)] to differentiate stable renal allografts from acute graft dysfunction and to assess time-dependent changes in parenchymal stiffness, thereby assessing its use as an efficient monitoring tool for ongoing graft dysfunction. To date, biopsy is the gold standard for evaluation of acute graft dysfunction. However, because it is invasive, it carries certain risks and cannot be used for follow-up monitoring.

Introduction: Colonic manometry (CM) is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate pediatric patients with refractory constipation, fecal incontinence, Hirschsprung disease, and pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Pan-colonic high-amplitude propagated contractions (HAPCs), measured by CM, reflect an intact neuromuscular function of the colon. Current guidelines recommend starting CM with fasting recording for 1-2 h, but no prior evaluation has determined the diagnostic yield of the fasting phase.

Pediatric Emergency Departments (PEDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) face significant challenges in managing infectious diseases due to limited resources, poor infrastructure, and socioeconomic barriers. This review explores the burden of infectious diseases in pediatric populations, the diagnostic tools available, treatment protocols, and preventive measures implemented in LMIC PEDs. We emphasize the need for an integrated approach to improve health outcomes, focusing on enhancing healthcare infrastructure, training healthcare workers, and promoting public health awareness.

Study Design: Retrospective review.

Objective: To validate using patient-reported outcome measurement information system-pain interference (PROMIS-PI) to assess outcomes in patients undergoing lumbar decompression surgery compared with well-established pain and disability measures.

Summary Of Background Data: PROMIS outcomes provide valuable information, but the PROMIS-PI measure has not been validated in lumbar decompression.

Study Design: Retrospective review.

Objective: This study aims to compare postoperative patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in predominant back pain (PBP) versus predominant leg pain (PLP) patients following lumbar fusion for degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS).

Summary Of Background Data: Prior studies comparing PROMs in patients undergoing lumbar fusion with PBP versus PLP symptoms have included heterogeneous spinal pathology and restricted analysis to posterior fusion techniques.

Introduction: The FRED-X is a newer generation flow diverting stent (FDS) with surface modification that has demonstrated favorable efficacy in treating intracranial aneurysms. Our study provides an analysis of patients treated using FRED-X compared to FRED, PED Shield and PED.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective single center study and a systematic review with network meta analysis of patients who underwent flow diversion using FRED-X, FRED, PED Shield or PED.

Several approaches have been utilised to deliver therapeutic nanoparticles inside the brain but rendered by certain limitation such as active efflux, non-stability, toxicity of the nanocarrier, transport, physicochemical properties and many more. In this context use of biocompatible nano carriers is currently investigated. We herein present the hypothesis that the nucleoside-lipid based conjugates (nucleolipids) which are biocompatible in nature and have molecular recognition can be tuned for improved permeation across blood-brain barrier (BBB).

Background: Renal involvement in sarcoidosis is rare. We evaluated the pattern of renal involvement in sarcoidosis, its clinical course, renal histology, and response to treatment.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of all cases with sarcoidosis exhibiting renal involvement referred to our department between January 2010 and December 2021.

Background And Objectives: Body mass index (BMI) is a modifiable risk factor that has been shown to affect outcomes in neurointervention. The impact of BMI on choice of access site (transradial access (TRA) or transfemoral access (TFA), remains undescribed to our knowledge. Our study analyzes outcomes of TRA and TFA stratified by BMI in patients undergoing diagnostic cerebral angiograms in an outpatient setting.

Objectives: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a cerebrovascular disorder marked by the progressive steno-occlusion of the bilateral internal carotid arteries and the formation of abnormal collateral vessel networks at the base of the brain. Previous studies have attempted to identify risk factors predictive of postoperative complications to improve patient management. This study aims to identify pretreatment factors associated with post-bypass symptomatic strokes in MMD patients.

Study Design: Retrospective review.

Objective: To evaluate how preoperative disability influences patient-reported outcomes (PROs) following primary surgical intervention for cervical herniated disc.

Summary Of Background Data: The effect of baseline disability has been evaluated for various spinal surgeries, but not specifically for primary cervical herniated disc.

Background And Objectives: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is characterized by progressive steno-occlusion of the internal carotid arteries, leading to compensatory collateral vessel formation. The optimal surgical approach for MMD remains debated, with bilateral revascularization potentially offering more comprehensive protection but involving more extensive surgery compared to unilateral revascularization. This study aims to compare bilateral revascularization and unilateral revascularization short-term safety profile in the treatment of MMD.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated the mechanical properties and surface characteristics of four archwire materials: stainless steel, nickel-titanium, beta-titanium, and esthetic archwires, focusing on tensile strength, yield strength, modulus of elasticity, surface roughness, and frictional properties.
  • Stainless steel had the best mechanical properties, including the highest tensile strength (900 N), yield strength (780 N), and modulus of elasticity (200 GPa), while esthetic archwires showed the highest surface roughness (0.40 µm) and frictional forces.
  • The findings highlight that selecting the right archwire material is crucial for achieving effective and efficient tooth movement in orthodontic treatment.

Encapsulating CsPbBr quantum dots in silicon nano-sheets not only stabilizes the halide perovskite, but also takes advantage of the nano-sheet for a compatible integration with the traditional silicon semiconductor. Here, we report the preparation of un-passivated CsPbBr ellipsoidal nanocrystals and pseudo-spherical quantum dots in silicon nano-sheets and their enhanced photoluminescence (PL). For a sample with low concentrations of quantum dots in silicon nano-sheets, the emission from CsPbBr pseudo-spherical quantum dots is quenched and is dominated with Pb ion/silicene emission, which is very stable during the whole measurement period.

Superconducting transition-edge sensors (TES) have emerged as fascinating devices to detect broadband electromagnetic radiation with low thermal noise. The advent of metallic transition metal dichalcogenides, such as NbSe, has also created an impetus to understand their low-temperature properties, including superconductivity. Interestingly, NbSe-based sensor within the TES framework remains unexplored.

Objectives: Dysphagia is a frequent symptom of active eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), but at times it persists despite attaining histologic healing and lack of fibro-stenotic changes. We aimed to describe the manometric findings in this subset of patients.

Methods: A retrospective review of charts between 2013 and 2023 at a tertiary pediatric gastroenterology center, treating roughly 1500 EoE patients per year.

Background: Juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma (JPA) is the most common primary brain tumor of childhood and is rarely seen in adults. Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a common tumor predisposition syndrome, demonstrates a strong association with low-grade gliomas, most notably pilocytic astrocytoma, which are relatively indolent. Unlike its juvenile counterpart, reports of adult pilocytic astrocytoma (APA) vary widely in terms of disease progression from benign to much more malignant courses.
