This study examined the chemoselectivity and diastereoselectivity of silyl nitronate alkenyn-nitroethers in Intramolecular Silyl Nitronate Cycloadditions (ISNCs) to produce isoxazole derivatives with interesting medicinal properties. These reactions resulted in the formation of either dihydrofuro[3,4-c]isoxazolines/isoxazolidines and/or alkynyl moieties attached to 2,5-dihydrofuryl carbonyls. This study also discerned the diastereoselectivities of the resulting cyclic adducts and compared them to previous findings.

This study investigated the impact of an expedited feeding protocol following percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy on postprocedure length of stay (LOS).
Methods: We performed a before-and-after cohort study on hospitalized adults in whom percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy was placed by surgeons following the implementation of a standardized feeding protocol in which enteral feeds were resumed at the preoperative rate 6 h later.
Background: Rumination is implicated in the onset and maintenance of major depressive disorder (MDD). Rumination-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (RF-CBT) effectively targets rumination and may change resting-state brain connectivity and change in activation during a rumination induction task (RIT) post-intervention predicts depressive symptoms two years later. We examined brain activation changes during an RIT in adolescents with remitted MDD following RF-CBT and evaluated RIT reliability (or stability) during treatment as usual (TAU).

This online study investigated associations between emoji use frequency, attachment style, and emotional intelligence across genders and relationship types in a Mechanical Turk sample of 320 adults (≥18y; 191 women, 123 men, and 4 transgender individuals). Correlational analyses showed that emotional intelligence was positively related to emoji use with friends, while avoidant attachment was negatively related to emoji use with friends and dating or romantic partners.

Introduction: Management of penetrating thoracoabdominal (PTA) injuries with signs of hemorrhage have warranted operative intervention but improved imaging capabilities have redefined interventions required. We examined outcomes of hemodynamically stable patients undergoing preoperative CT imaging with the hypothesis that CT imaging would decrease OR time without delaying OR arrival.
Methods: A retrospective multicenter study was performed amongst four urban trauma centers examining hemodynamically stable patients with PTA injuries requiring operative intervention from January 2017-December 2021.

A preventive approach to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) through an Immediate Psycho-Trauma Intervention (IPTI) may significantly reduce PTSD likelihood and provide a cost-effective way to alleviate suffering. This mixed-method study 1) compared medics who received an IPTI to those who did not after a mass medical event, 2) compared the number medics diagnosed with PTSD from the IPTI group to the minimum number in similar cases reported in the literature. The results indicated that 1.

Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of telemedicine vs in-person surgical consultation on access to elective cholecystectomy in socially vulnerable populations and to evaluate the association of scheduling navigation with access to elective cholecystectomy in these populations.
Objective: To determine the proportion and characteristics of injured rural residents treated at urban trauma centers (TCs), urban non-trauma centers (NTCs), rural TCs, and rural NTCs.
Summary Background Data: Timely treatment at a designated trauma center improves outcomes for patients with serious injuries, but rural residents have limited access to designated trauma centers. Rural non-trauma centers may constitute an underrecognized source of trauma care.

Background: Injured patients have high rates of uninsurance, which is associated with worse outcomes. Insurance linkage programs that connect patients to Medicaid coverage can prevent catastrophic costs for patients. Less is known about the long-term impact of insurance enrollment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Although timely access to trauma center (TC) care for injured patients is essential, the proliferation of new TCs does not always improve outcomes. Hospitals may seek TC accreditation for financial reasons, rather than to address community or geographic need. Introducing new TCs risks degrading case and payer mix at established TCs.

The Stop the Bleed® Campaign emphasizes prehospital hemorrhage control to reduce preventable deaths; however, this course overlooks team interactions. We assessed the impact of high-fidelity simulation during medical student orientation on identification and treatment of life-threatening hemorrhage in a team setting.

The objective of this study was to assess the impact of palliative decompressive gastrostomy tube on patient and caregiver well-being.
Patients And Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients with a malignant SBO and their caregivers at the time of informed consent for decompressive gastrostomy tube placement.
Background: Racial disparities in firearm injury death in the United States are well established. Less is known about the magnitude of nonfatal and total firearm injury.
Objective: To combine health care data with death certificate data to estimate total firearm injuries in various racial and ethnic groups.
