Temperature monitoring has immediate relevance to many areas of research, from atmospheric environmental studies to biological sample and food preservation to chemical reactions. Here, we use a triple-barrel electrode to provide temperature readouts in bulk solution and microdroplets, as well as electrochemically monitor freezing events in a microdroplet. Using this method, we are able to identify distinct characteristics of a freezing aqueous droplet (supercooling, ice formation beginning and end, temperature change, and thawing) with greater temporal resolution than a standard thermocouple and without the use of microscopy.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to objectively assess the degree of residual facial asymmetry after primary treatment of non-syndromic unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) in children and to correlate it with subjective ratings of facial appearance.

Materials And Methods: Stereophotometry was used to record the faces of 89 children with UCLP for comparison of cleft and non-cleft sides up to 5 years after primary cleft closure. Root mean square values were calculated to measure the difference between the shape of cleft and non-cleft sides of the face and were compared to controls without a cleft lip.

Here, we have developed and applied a triple-barrel microelectrode. This device incorporates a platinum disk working electrode, a platinum disk counter electrode, and a low-leakage Ag/AgCl reference electrode into a small probe. We demonstrate that the incorporated low-leakage reference electrode shows similar voltammetry, potentiometry, and drift when compared to a commercial reference electrode in bulk solution.

Background: Prophylactic central neck dissection in clinically low-risk cT1bT2N0 papillary thyroid carcinoma is controversial, due to a large number of conflicting retrospective studies, some showing an advantage in terms of locoregional recurrence, others showing no advantage. These previous studies all show high rates of excellent response. Recently introduced as a method for aerosol electroanalysis, particle-into-liquid sampling for nanoliter electrochemical reactions (PILSNER) has shown promise as a versatile, highly sensitive analytical technique. As an alternative, we propose here the magnetically localized and wash-free fluorescence immunoassay (MLFIA): a no-wash assay to directly measure a biomolecule concentration, without mixing nor washing steps. The aim of the present study was to develop a collagen/heparin-based multilayer coating on titanium surfaces for retarded release of recombinant human bone morphogenic protein 2 (rhBMP2) to enhance the osteogenic activity of implant surfaces. Polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) coatings were constructed on sandblasted/acid-etched surfaces of titanium discs using heparin and collagen. The aim of the present study was to establish a modular platform of poly-L-lysine-heparin (PLL-Hep) polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) coatings on titanium surfaces for dual growth factor delivery of recombinant human bone morphogenic protein 2 (rhBMP2) and recombinant human vascular endothelial growth factor 165 (rhVEGF165) in clinically relevant quantities. Release characteristics for both growth factors differed significantly depending on film architecture. rhBMP2 induced activation of alkaline phosphatase in C2C12 cells and proliferation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs).

We present a facile method to detect methamphetamine in aerosols by trapping aerosols in a soap bubble wall for electroanalysis. A microwire was placed through a soap bubble wall as a sensing electrode along with a 1 mm diameter platinum wire as the counter/reference electrode. The resulting electrochemical cell and electrode geometry are unique and allow for reproducible electrochemistry between bubble walls.

Particle-into-liquid sampling (PILS) has enabled robust quantification of analytes of interest in aerosol particles. In PILS, the limit of detection is limited by the factor of particle dilution into the liquid sampling volume.
