Participant perspectives related to individual chemical exposure report-back approaches in three environmental health studies.

Returning results to participants of environmental exposure studies has become more common in recent years. Despite evidence of benefits for study participants, there are challenges in communicating results to people with limited resources or capacity to mitigate chemical exposures. We interviewed N = 54 participants and compared exposure report-back conducted in 2010-2013 across three susceptible study populations: 1) low-income pregnant individuals in the Chemicals in Our Bodies (CIOB) study; 2) the Center for the Health Assessment of Mothers and Children of Salinas (CHAMACOS) cohort; and 3) early childhood educators (ECE).

Au(SR) Nanocluster and a Periodic Pattern from Six to Fourteen Free Electrons in Core Size Evolution.

An Au(S-Bu) nanocluster (NC) is synthesized using the bulky -butyl thiol as the ligand. Single-crystal X-ray crystallography reveals that it has an Au core which evolves from the Au core in the previously reported Au(S-Bu), and the Au core is protected by longer staple-like surface motifs. The new Au NC extends the members of the face-centered cubic structural evolution by adding an Au triangle and an Au tetrahedron unit.

The East Bay Diesel Exposure Project: a biomonitoring study of parents and their children in heavily impacted communities.

Background: Diesel exhaust (DE) exposures pose concerns for serious health effects, including asthma and lung cancer, in California communities burdened by multiple stressors.

Objective: To evaluate DE exposures in disproportionately impacted communities using biomonitoring and compare results for adults and children within and between families.

Methods: We recruited 40 families in the San Francisco East Bay area.

Biomonitoring California Protocol for Following up on Elevated Levels of Urinary Arsenic.

Objectives: to develop and implement a follow-up protocol for Biomonitoring California study participants with elevated levels of urinary arsenic, particularly inorganic forms.

Methods: We selected 20 μg/L as the level of concern for urinary arsenic; samples with arsenic ≥20 μg/L were speciated. Participants with elevated inorganic arsenic were notified of their level and invited to participate in a telephone survey to help determine possible exposure sources.

Dissecting Critical Factors for Electrochemical CO Reduction on Atomically Precise Au Nanoclusters.

This work investigates the critical factors impacting electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CO RR) using atomically precise Au nanoclusters (NCs) as electrocatalysts. First, the influence of size on CO RR is studied by precisely controlling NC size in the 1-2.5 nm regime.

Advances on Self-Regulation Models: A New Research Agenda Through the SR vs ER Behavior Theory in Different Psychology Contexts.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory (1986) influenced the development of several complementary models of the construct of Self-Regulation. Building on the foundation of Self-Determination Theory, SDT (2000), and Zimmerman's Self-Regulation Theory, SR (2001), with their assumptions, contributions, goddesses, and limitations, we come to the Self- vs. External Regulatory Theory, SR-ER (2021).

High current density electroreduction of CO into formate with tin oxide nanospheres.

In this study, we demonstrate three-dimensional (3D) hollow nanosphere electrocatalysts for CO conversion into formate with excellent H-Cell performance and industrially-relevant current density in a 25 cm membrane electrode assembly electrolyzer device. Varying calcination temperature maximized formate production via optimizing the crystallinity and particle size of the constituent SnO nanoparticles. The best performing SnO nanosphere catalysts contained ~ 7.

Does Gender Impact a Diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis?

Objective: The study objective was to explore differences in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) diagnosis experiences between men and women by examining the coding of health events over the 2 years preceding AS diagnosis.

Methods: Claims data (January 2006-April 2019) from the MarketScan databases were examined. Patients who had received two or more AS diagnoses at least 30 days apart and had at least 2 years of insurance enrollment before their first AS diagnosis were analyzed.

Analysis and Psychoeducational Implications of the Behavior Factor During the COVID-19 Emergency.

This theoretical analysis seeks to contribute to three objectives within the context of the proposed Research Topic: (1) delimit two levels of analysis in the present pandemic situation: medicine-epidemiology and behavioral psychology, still under-addressed. While medicine has its essential role on the biological side, psychology has a comparable role on the behavioral side. (2) Analyze the importance of behavioral-educational factors in the pandemic situation, using a precise theoretical model from educational psychology for this analysis.

The role of ligands in atomically precise nanocluster-catalyzed CO electrochemical reduction.

Ligand effects are of major interest in catalytic reactions owing to their potential critical role in determining the reaction activity and selectivity. Herein, we report ligand effects in the CO2 electrochemical reduction reaction at the atomic level with three unique Au25 nanoclusters comprising the same kernel but different protecting ligands (-XR, where X = S or Se, and R represents the carbon tail). It is observed that a change in the carbon tail shows no obvious impact on the catalytic selectivity and activity, but the anchoring atom (X = S or Se) strongly affects the electrocatalytic selectivity.

Boosting CO Electrochemical Reduction with Atomically Precise Surface Modification on Gold Nanoclusters.

Maximizing Performance in Medicare's Merit Based Incentive Payment System: A Financial Model to Optimize Health Information Technology Resource Allocation.

Participation in the Medicare Quality Payment Program's Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) has forced many healthcare administrators to strategize how to achieve success under value-based payment systems. A financial model was constructed to determine the marginal utility of compliance with various MIPS measures. Solo, small, medium, large, and very large practices were modeled using available data and final rules published by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Differential Effects of Self- vs. External-Regulation on Learning Approaches, Academic Achievement, and Satisfaction in Undergraduate Students.

The aim of this research was to determine the degree to which undergraduate students' learning approach, academic achievement and satisfaction were determined by the combination of an intrapersonal factor (self-regulation) and a interpersonal factor (contextual or regulatory teaching). The hypothesis proposed that greater combined regulation (internal and external) would be accompanied by more of a deep approach to learning, more satisfaction and higher achievement, while a lower level of combined regulation would determine a surface approach, less satisfaction and lower achievement. Within an facto design by selection, 1036 university students completed validated questionnaires using an online tool.

Big Five, Self-Regulation, and Coping Strategies as Predictors of Achievement Emotions in Undergraduate Students.

The study focused on the analysis of linear relations between personality, self-regulation, coping strategies and achievement emotions. The main objective was to establish a model of linear, empirical, associative to infer needs and proposals for intervening in emotional health in the different profiles of university students. A total of 642 undergraduate students participated in this research.

A Mono-cuboctahedral Series of Gold Nanoclusters: Photoluminescence Origin, Large Enhancement, Wide Tunability, and Structure-Property Correlation.

The origin of the near-infrared photoluminescence (PL) from thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters (Au NCs, <2 nm) has long been controversial, and the exact mechanism for the enhancement of quantum yield (QY) in many works remains elusive. Meanwhile, based upon the sole steady-state PL analysis, it is still a major challenge for researchers to map out a definitive relationship between the atomic structure and the PL property and understand how the Au(0) kernel and Au(I)-S surface contribute to the PL of Au NCs. Herein, we provide a paradigm study to address the above critical issues.

Adapting the Research Development and Innovation (RD & I) Value Chain in Psychology to Educational Psychology Area.

Educational Psychology, as an area of Psychology that specializes in formative processes, faces several important challenges in the information and knowledge society of this twenty first century. One of these challenges is to facilitate a paradigm shift from a nearly exclusive focus on social science to the scientific-technological approach of a discipline that produces innovation and meaningful transfer of science and technology. The Research, Development, and Innovation (RD & I) value chain means pursuing these three endeavors in both the academic and professional lines of Educational Psychology.

The Intersection of Gender and Resuscitation Leadership Experience in Emergency Medicine Residents: A Qualitative Study.

Objectives: The objective was to examine emergency medicine (EM) residents' perceptions of gender as it intersects with resuscitation team dynamics and the experience of acquiring resuscitation leadership skills.

Methods: This was an exploratory, qualitative study using grounded theory and a purposive sample of postgraduate year (PGY) 2-4 EM residents who function as resuscitation team leaders in two urban EM programs. One-on-one interviews were conducted by a single experienced researcher.

Polymer Microneedle Mediated Local Aptamer Delivery for Blocking the Function of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor.

Overexpression of proteins in the body can cause severe diseases and other physiological disturbances. The development of protein blockers and local delivery systems would offer opportunities for addressing the health problems caused by protein overexpression. Nucleic acid aptamers are an emerging class of ligands with the potential to block proteins effectively; however, little effort has been made in developing polymer systems for local aptamer delivery.
