Background/aims: Advances in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology allow for reprogramming of adult somatic cells into stem cells from which patient- and disease-specific cardiomyocytes (CMs) can be derived. Yet, the potential of iPSC technology to revolutionize cardiovascular research is limited, in part, by the embryonic nature of these cells. We prove global stability for the charged scalar field system on a background spacetime, which is close to -dimensional Minkowski space and whose outward light cones converge to those for the Schwarzs-child metric at null infinity. The key technique to this proof is the use of a modified null frame, depending only on the mass of the metric, which captures the asymptotic behavior of the metric at future null infinity. Our results are analogous to results obtained in Minkowski space by Lindblad and Sterbenz in (IMRP Int Math Res Pap 2006:52976, 2006) up to a change in coordinates, and will in the sequel be used to prove the full structure of the Einstein-charge scalar field system in these modified harmonic coordinates.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Five organs (heart, right lung, liver, right, and left kidneys) from a deceased patient were transplanted into five recipients in four US states; the deceased patient was identified as part of a healthcare-associated fungal meningitis outbreak among patients who underwent epidural anesthesia in Matamoros, Mexico.
Methods: After transplant surgeries occurred, Fusarium solani species complex, a fungal pathogen with a high case-mortality rate, was identified in cerebrospinal fluid from the organ donor by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and fungal-specific polymerase chain reaction and in plasma by mNGS.
Results: Four of five transplant recipients received recommended voriconazole prophylaxis; four were monitored weekly by serum (1-3)-β-d-glucan testing.
Amphotericin B (AmB) has broad fungicidal activity against many fungi, but the high incidence of adverse events, particularly nephrotoxicity, and the need for intravenous administration restrict its use for many patients. MAT2203, an investigational oral AmB formulation available under a compassionate use program, uses a lipid nanocrystal bilayer structure to deliver AmB with lower toxicity. We present a synopsis of clinical characteristics, treatment course, and outcomes for 5 patients who were treated with MAT2203.

This study analyzed the correlation of geometric measurements (1-dimensional, 2-dimensional, and 3-dimensional) of preoperative tomographic images of AAA with uniaxial biomechanical tests of the arterial wall fragments of these AAA obtained in open surgical repair of aneurysms.
Methods: It was a multicenter, experimental, and observational study, and initially 54 individuals were selected who underwent open surgical of AAA, with valid biomechanical tests of the anterior wall of the AAA.
Background: Textured implants and expanders are associated with an increased risk of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). As a result, plastic surgeons are utilizing smooth expanders, but many perceive these produce undesirable outcomes including infection, seroma, and lateral displacement.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare clinical outcomes of smooth and textured expanders.

Sixty patients, of whom 44 (73%) had acute leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome, were studied. The majority (n = 37,62%) received a 2nd allo-HCT because of relapsed leukemia.
