The transcription of organellar genes is performed by three nuclear-encoded RNA polymerases: RPOTm, RPOTmp, and RPOTp. The RPOTmp protein possesses ambiguous transit peptides, allowing participation in gene expression control in both mitochondria and chloroplasts, although its function in plastids is still under discussion. Here, we show that the overexpression of RPOTmp in , targeted either to mitochondria or chloroplasts, disturbs the dormant seed state, and it causes the following effects: earlier germination, decreased ABA sensitivity, faster seedling growth, and earlier flowering.

In a number of dicotyledonous plants, including Arabidopsis, the transcription of organellar genes is performed by three nuclear-encoded RNA polymerases, RPOTm, RPOTmp, and RPOTp. RPOTmp is a protein with a dual targeting, which is presumably involved in the control of gene expression in both mitochondria and chloroplasts. A previous study of the Arabidopsis insertion rpotmp mutant showed that it has retarded growth and development, altered leaf morphology, changed expression of mitochondrial and probably some chloroplast genes, and decreased activities of the mitochondrial respiratory complexes.

Changes in the level of blood cell-free circulating mitochondrial DNA were examined during experimental adrenaline-induced myocardial injury in rats. The amount of mitochondrial DNA in the blood was significantly elevated at 48 and 72 h after subcutaneous injection of adrenaline solution, and it was accompanied by development of multiple small-focal myocardial ischemia. This suggests that the measured level of blood cell-free circulating mitochondrial DNA might be used as a biomarker of acute myocardial ischemia.

Gene expression, protein synthesis, and activities of alternative oxidase (AOX), uncoupling proteins (UCP), adenine nucleotide translocator (ANT), and non-coupled NAD(P)H dehydrogenases (NDex, NDPex, and NDin) were studied in shoots of etiolated winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seedlings after exposure to hardening low positive (2°C for 7 days) and freezing (-2°C for 2 days) temperatures. The cold hardening efficiently increased frost-resistance of the seedlings and decreased the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during further cold shock.

We conducted a comparative study of the properties of topoisomerase I isolated from maize nuclei and mitochondria. We found that nuclear and mitochondrial enzymes possess different ability to bind single stranded DNA. Study of the enzyme activity dependence on Mg2+ demonstrated an absolute dependence of the mitochondrial topoisomerase activity.

Aim: Evaluation of efficiency of bone marrow and peripheral stem cells transplantation in patients with solid tumors.

Materials And Methods: A total of 38 patients aged 30-40 years with stage III or IV solid tumors (15 cases of breast cancer, 5 cases of Ewing's sarcoma, 4 cases of osteogenic sarcoma, ovarian or testicular tumors, 3 cases of soft tissue sarcoma) underwent high-dose polychemotherapy with autologous hematopoietic rescue. All the patients were resistant to the first line chemotherapy or were in relapse of the disease.

The study failed to show a stimulating effect of hyperbaric oxygen on growth and metastatic spreading of sarcoma 37 transplanted subcutaneously or intravenously to female SHR mice, melanoma B16 intramuscularly transplanted to female C57/Bl mice and methylcholanthrene-induced tumors in female albino noninbred rats. An insignificant inhibitory effect of hyperbaric oxygen on transplantable tumor growth and development of inducible ones in experimental animals was observed.
