Surveillance for surgical site infections developed during hospital stay & after discharge: A multicentric study.

Background & objectives Surgical site infections (SSIs) are among the most prevalent healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). They cause significant morbidity, leading to excess health expenditures and increased length of hospital stay. Despite a high population burden, data on post-discharge SSIs is lacking from low-and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Assessment of structural and functional profile of dental centers for people with disabilities.

Aims: People with disabilities (PWD) often face more significant oral healthcare needs than the general population. This study, conducted in response to the urgent and pressing need for improved dental care for PWD, aims to assess the infrastructural and work process flow of dental centers in Delhi that provide specialized dental care for PWD.

Methods And Results: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare centers in Delhi, evaluating their infrastructure adaptations and work processes in delivering oral healthcare to PWD.

Reduced processing of afforded actions while observing mental content as ongoing mental phenomena.

While consciousness is typically considered equivalent to mental contents, certain meditation practices-including open monitoring (OM)-are said to enable a unique conscious state where meditators can experience mental content from a de-reified perspective as "ongoing phenomena." Phenomenologically, such a state is considered as reduction of intentionality, the mental act upon mental content. We hypothesised that this de-reified state would be characterised by reduced mental actional processing of affording objects.

Impression Disinfection and Its Effect on Dimensional Accuracy and Surface Detail in the Times of COVID-19: An In Vitro Study.

Introduction The disinfection of impressions is crucial to eliminate the viral and other microbial loads to prevent the cross contamination of diseases. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of different virucidal disinfecting methods on the dimensional accuracy and surface detail reproduction (SDR) of impression materials. Methods A total of 160 samples were fabricated with different impression materials using zinc oxide eugenol (Group 1), alginate (Group 2), polyether (Group 3), and addition silicone (Group 4) impression materials, each containing 40 samples (n=40).

Barriers to pursuing further education among Canadian dental hygienists: a qualitative exploration.

Purpose: In recent years, C,anada has seen the development of new educational pathways to baccalaureate education for dental hygienists. Research has demonstrated that degree education strengthens dental hygienists' cognitive and practice abilities and increases career opportunities. However, the 2021 Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) Job Market and Employment Survey reported that only 27% of respondents held a baccalaureate degree.

Management of a Rare Tessier 30 Median Mandibular Cleft Anomaly: A Comprehensive Review.

Introduction: The median mandibular cleft (MMC) is a rare craniofacial anomaly manifesting as a cleft of the lower lip and mandible, which may extend to the neck to a variable extent and severity. Its management involves a timely, staged, and multidisciplinary approach. Unlike for maxillary cleft lip and palate, the literature on this anomaly is scarce and scattered.

The future of metacognition research: Balancing construct breadth with measurement rigor.

Foundational work in the psychology of metacognition identified a distinction between metacognitive knowledge (stable beliefs about one's capacities) and metacognitive experiences (local evaluations of performance). More recently, the field has focused on developing tasks and metrics that seek to identify metacognitive capacities from momentary estimates of confidence in performance, and providing precise computational accounts of metacognitive failure. However, this notable progress in formalising models of metacognitive judgments may come at a cost of ignoring broader elements of the psychology of metacognition - such as how stable meta-knowledge is formed, how social cognition and metacognition interact, and how we evaluate affective states that do not have an obvious ground truth.

An Accumulating Neural Signal Underlying Binocular Rivalry Dynamics.

During binocular rivalry, conflicting images are presented one to each eye and perception alternates stochastically between them. Despite stable percepts between alternations, modeling suggests that neural signals representing the two images change gradually, and that the duration of stable percepts are determined by the time required for these signals to reach a threshold that triggers an alternation. However, direct physiological evidence for such signals has been lacking.

Clinical Outcomes in a Large Canadian Centralized CLL Clinic Based on Treatment and Molecular Factors over a Decade.

FISH cytogenetics, TP53 sequencing, and IGHV mutational status are increasingly used as prognostic and predictive markers in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), particularly as components of the CLL International Prognostic Index (CLL-IPI) and in directing therapy with novel agents. However, testing outside of clinical trials is not routinely available in Canada. As a centralized CLL clinic at CancerCare Manitoba, we are the first Canadian province to evaluate clinical outcomes and survivorship over a long period of time, incorporating the impact of molecular testing and the CLL-IPI score.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has grown tremendously in the past decade. The application of AI in teledentistry can reform the way dental care, dental education, research, and subsequent innovations can happen remotely. Machine learning including deep learning-based algorithms can be developed to create predictive models of risk assessment for oral health related conditions, consequent complications, and patient stratification.

A quantitative analysis of macrophage-colony-stimulating factor in peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid before and after orthodontic loading.

Objectives: To analyze macrophage-colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), a bone remodeling biomarker in the peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid (PMICF) after insertion and orthodontic loading.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study included 40 miniscrew implant (MSI) sites in 10 subjects undergoing fixed orthodontic mechanotherapy utilizing miniscrew anchorage. After dental alignment, miniscrews were inserted between the second premolar and first molar roots.

HIF - 1α as a marker of risk assessment for malignant transformation in oral submucous fibrosis: An immunohistochemical study.

Background: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a potentially malignant disorder associated with habit of chewing betel quid containing arecanut. Morphological features of OSMF especially fibrosis suggests a possibility of the hypoxic environment in diseased tissues. The adaptation of cells to hypoxia appears to be mediated via hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) which is also said to be associated with malignant transformation of epithelial cells in various other carcinomas like prostate and cervical carcinoma.

Reducing and deducing the structures of consciousness through meditation.

According to many first-person accounts, consciousness comprises a subject-object structure involving a mental action or attitude starting from the "subjective pole" upon an object of experience. In recent years, many paradigms have been developed to manipulate and empirically investigate the object of consciousness. However, well-controlled investigation of subjective aspects of consciousness has been more challenging.

Characteristics of Kundalini-Related Sensory, Motor, and Affective Experiences During Tantric Yoga Meditation.

Traditional spiritual literature contains rich anecdotal reports of spontaneously arising experiences occurring during meditation practice, but formal investigation of such experiences is limited. Previous work has sometimes related spontaneous experiences to the Indian traditional contemplative concept of kundalini. Historically, descriptions of kundalini come out of Tantric schools of Yoga, where it has been described as a "rising energy" moving within the spinal column up to the brain.
