The effects of muscle weakness on speech are currently not fully known. We investigated the relationships between maximum tongue pressure and second formant transition in adults with different types of dysarthria. It focused on the slope in the second formant transition because it reflects the tongue velocity during articulation.

Patients were treated with either CDDP (70 mg/m2) or CDGP (100 mg/m2) on day 1 of the chemotherapy regime, with 5-FU (700 mg/m2/day) as a continuous infusion for 5 days. Each regimen was administered as two courses in the first and final weeks of radiotherapy.

Objective: Oral health status is a risk factor for postradiation bone complications (also known as osteoradionecrosis [ORN]), and oral health care is an important element in the prevention of this condition. Some authors recommend extracting teeth with a questionable prognosis and either gross mobility or periodontal disease. However, the criteria for making such decisions remain to be elucidated.

Vocal cord palsy (VCP) is common in otolaryngological clinics, as are postoperative patients with VCP at general and university hospitals. Although VCP treatment strategies have been discussed, decisions on treatment methods and timing are complicated by the spontaneous recovery exhibited by some patients. We studied clinical features of VCP patients and their histories.

Differential diagnosis prior to the treatment was difficult, but the diagnosis was decided by the histopathological findings of an open biopsy specimen obtained simultaneously in an emergent tracheostomy required for progressive airway stenosis. First-choice treatment for Riedel's thyroiditis has been reported to be steroid administration, however, this treatment was difficult for the present case due to continuous steroid treatment for complicated neuro-Behçet's disease.

A 14-year-old boy presented with a spontaneous anterior cervical fistula, which exuded a saliva-like fluid during eating. Cervical examination revealed a hole 7 mm posterior to the hyoid bone, 5mm left of the median. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a low-intensity spindly mass with high-intensity margins.

It was difficult to diagnose and treat the lesions, but they were finally diagnosed from the histopathological findings of accompanying skin lesion specimens. One of the patients required a tracheostomy due to increased airway stenosis by a laryngeal lesion.

We herein present three cases of malignant lymphoma arose in the parotid gland and the lacrimal gland, following parotid surgery for benign lymphoepithelial lesion (BLEL) of the parotid gland. Two cases had mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma in the parotid gland; one arose in the ipsilateral parotid gland as a recurrent swelling, and the other arose in the contralateral parotid gland of the previous BLEL surgery.
