Subungual exostosis (SE) is a well-recognised benign proliferation of the distal phalanx most often seen in young adults and affecting the big toe. Possible triggers include previous trauma and chronic irritation or infection. We describe two atypical cases of SE in two young women presenting with pyogenic granuloma-like lesions clinically.

The silicone sealant and surgical tape model scored highest overall and for each individual domain. This was significantly higher than all other models with the exception of the silicone sealant alone.

A case of localized argyria in a 36-year-old female jeweler is described who presented with 2 discrete and asymptomatic bluish-black pigmented macules on the pulp of her left middle finger. A skin biopsy from both lesions demonstrated deposition of brown/black pigmented granules along the basement membrane zone of eccrine glands, blood vessels, nerves, and the dermo-epidermal junction fully in keeping with silver deposition. In addition, there was yellow-brown deposition seen within the interstitial dermis mimicking an early form of ochronosis, so called "pseudo-ochronosis.

With an incidence of 0.08 per 1 000 000 people/year, it is often initially misdiagnosed as a simple ganglion although it has a significant risk of metastasis.

We discuss a combination of established and modern techniques in the investigation and management of traumatic flexor digitorum profundus rupture ('Rugger Jersey Finger') in seven cases (male rugby players ranging from 15 to 30 years of age; mean = 26). We discuss the use of X-ray and ultrasound investigation followed by various surgical repairs including intraosseous sutures, suture anchors, tendon lengthening and "pull-through suture over button" repairs. Functional outcome at outpatient follow-up is discussed in each case.

A total of 35 ultrasound-guided percutaneous releases were performed on 25 patients diagnosed and referred by hand surgeons in our institution over 16 months from October 2006. Inclusion criteria were as follows: adulthood, triggering present for at least 4 months, failure to respond to conservative management or steroid injections, no previous history of pulley release in the affected digit.

Flexor tendon divisions in Zone 1 need to be re-inserted to the distal phalanx. This paper describes the Transverse Intraosseous Loop Technique (TILT) of re-inserting the profundus tendon to the distal phalanx in which an internally placed suture is looped through the bone and tendon interface. It provides a strong repair, which permits the desired tensioning and can be performed in children.

Acute medical staff should be aware of the insidious nature of presentation of this condition, as early aggressive treatment is required to prevent tendon rupture. In this instance, an excellent functional outcome was achieved by surgical drainage and early tendon reconstruction.

The authors replanted the degloved skin using arteriovenous anastomosis of the radial artery at the wrist to the cephalic vein in the degloved skin in an end-to-side manner. To enhance the survival of the replanted skin, it was deepithelialized and buried in an abdominal pocket created specifically for this purpose.

Craniofacial defects induced by retinoic acid have stimulated considerable research interest. The present report deals with scanning electron microscopical observations of the craniofacial region concurrent with histological examination of craniofacial dysmorphism induced in rat embryos following maternal treatment treated with varying dosages of all-trans-retinoic acid (tretinoin).

During an extended teratological protocol concerning retinoic acid influence in diverse embryonic tissue differentiation in experimental animals we studied all-trans-retinoic acid's influence on palatal development in the white rat embryo. For this purpose, six groups of white rat embryos were studied: Group 1 was treated with 100 mg/kilogram of body weight (k.
