Application of a Composite Score to Predict Adnexal Torsion in Premenarchal and Menarchal Children and Adolescents.

Study Objective: The study objective was to apply a previously created composite score for the prediction of adnexal torsion in children and adolescents to a larger group of heterogeneous patients to test its validity and to refine this scoring system to more accurately predict adnexal torsion.

Methods: This was a retrospective chart review at a tertiary care children's hospital and its affiliates. Participants were female patients 0-20 years of age who underwent surgery for suspected adnexal torsion from 2016 to 2019.

Clinical and radiologic factors associated with adnexal torsion in premenarchal and menarchal children and adolescents.

Background: Adnexal torsion is a gynecologic emergency in children and adolescents but remains a challenging diagnosis, with no consistent clinical or radiologic diagnostic criteria. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of pregnant women with pelvic inflammatory disease with or without pelvic abscesses.

Data Sources: We performed a systematic review of the literature using Ovid MEDLINE, Scopus, CINAHL, and PubMed (including Cochrane) with no time limitations.

Clinical Characteristics and Histologic Features of Hysterectomy Specimens From Transmasculine Individuals.

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of transmasculine individuals who underwent hysterectomy and characterize surgical pathology findings.

Methods: Under an institutional review board-approved protocol, transmasculine individuals who were undergoing hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy or bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were retrospectively identified from a single institution. Past medical, surgical, obstetric, and gynecologic history were collected, including prior testosterone use, cervical cancer screening status, and preoperative pelvic imaging.

Efficacy of Medical Student Surgery Journal Club.

Background: Journal clubs exist in a variety of forms in medical schools across the United States. Many incorporate a full spectrum of medical specialties, some are specific to certain interest groups or specialties, and many widely vary in whether or not they are school mandated or student-run. While these clubs are ubiquitously scattered throughout medical education, there has been very little quantitative or qualitative analysis regarding the efficacy of these clubs in enhancing medical students' abilities to evaluate clinical literature.

Cognitive Function Deficits Associated With Long-Duration Type 1 Diabetes and Vascular Complications.

Objective: Patients with type 1 diabetes now live long enough to experience cognitive decline. During middle age, they show mild cognitive deficits, but it is unknown whether severity increases with aging or whether cognitive profiles are similar to those of age-matched peers with and without diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: We tested and compared cognition in 82 individuals with 50 or more years of type 1 diabetes (Medalists), 31 age-matched individuals with type 2 diabetes, and 30 age-matched control subjects without diabetes.
