Background: The revised Lublin classification offers a framework for categorizing multiple sclerosis (MS) according to the clinical course and imaging results. Diagnosis of secondary progressive MS (SPMS) is often delayed by a period of uncertainty. Several quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) markers are associated with progressive disease states, but they are not usually available in clinical practice.

Large-scale cross-sectional online survey on patient-neurologist communication, burden of disease assessment and disease monitoring in people with multiple sclerosis.

Background: Management of multiple sclerosis (MS) requires a high level of communication between health care professionals (HCPs) and people with MS (pwMS) including profound investigation and discussion of symptoms to identify therapeutic needs. For treatment decisions, monitoring of disease activity is important, in this respect self-monitoring devices and apps, as well as magnetic resonance imaging are important tools.

Methods: MS Perspectives is a cross-sectional online survey conducted in Germany which was designed to collect data, among others, on the communication between pwMS and HCPs regarding treatment goals, symptom assessment, usage of devices and apps to self-monitor health functions, as well as to identify patients' attitude toward the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Real-world evidence data on the monoclonal antibody erenumab in migraine prevention: perspectives of treating physicians in Germany.

Background: Erenumab, the first-in-class fully human monoclonal antibody targeting the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor, was shown to be efficacious and safe for the prophylactic treatment of migraine in adults in randomized clinical trials. Large-scale, real-world evidence in multi-centre settings is still needed to confirm these results. Erenumab patient profiles outside clinical trials and physicians' treatment patterns, as well as data from patients treated in Germany, a severely impacted population, are not published yet.

Patient satisfaction and healthcare services in specialized multiple sclerosis centres in Germany.

Background: As patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) require lifelong treatment, optimization of therapy with respect to efficacy and safety is needed to limit long-term disease progression. Patients with MS also need a range of health-related services. Satisfaction with these as well as treatment is clinically relevant because satisfied patients are more likely to adhere to therapy.

Electrocardiographic assessments and cardiac events after fingolimod first dose - a comprehensive monitoring study.

Background: First dose observation for cardiac effects is required for fingolimod, but recommendations on the extent vary. This study aims to assess cardiac safety of fingolimod first dose. Individual bradyarrhythmic episodes were evaluated to assess the relevance of continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring.

Combination treatment of fingolimod with antidepressants in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients with depression: a multicentre, open-label study - REGAIN.

Objectives: Approximately one in two patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) suffer from comorbid depression. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and tolerability of fingolimod and antidepressant combination in relapsing-remitting MS patients with mild-to-moderate depression. Efficacy outcome variables were quality of life (QoL), fatigue, disability and depression.

Acceptance of the extracare program by Beta interferon-treated patients with multiple sclerosis: results of the explore study.

Inhibition of the MAP kinase ERK protects from lipopolysaccharide-induced lung injury.

The pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by pulmonary inflammation associated with lung neutrophilia and elevated levels of pro-inflammatory mediators in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid or sputum of patients. Recent findings revealed that mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascade is involved in the inflammatory response of lung injury. In the present study we could elucidate the role of extracellular signal-related MAPK in the murine model of LPS-induced acute lung injury by using U0126, a specific inhibitor of MEK1/2, upstream kinases of ERK.
