  • Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a long-term skin condition that greatly affects patients' lives, and this study explored the link between inflammation markers in the blood and various measures of quality of life, emotional health, and loneliness.
  • The research involved 37 HS patients, tracking inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate at multiple times, alongside assessments using tools like the Dermatology Life Quality Index.
  • Findings showed that higher levels of inflammation (ESR and CRP) were linked to worse quality of life and greater psychological distress, highlighting the need for more investigation into these connections.

Background: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive, cutaneous tumour with high mortality and frequently delayed diagnosis. Clinically, it often manifests as a rapidly growing erythematous to purple nodule usually located on the lower extremities or face and scalp of elderly patients. There is limited available data on the dermoscopic findings of MCC, and there are no specific features that can be used to definitively diagnose MCC.

  • Wilson disease is a rare genetic disorder that leads to excessive copper accumulation in various organs, and penicillamine is a key treatment that can cause serious skin reactions.
  • A case involving a 41-year-old man with Wilson disease showed localized cutis laxa (CL) after long-term use of penicillamine, with skin changes noticed in the neck area.
  • The findings suggest that prolonged penicillamine treatment might cause localized CL through interference with collagen fiber connections.

  • Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a highly aggressive skin cancer, and this study explores how its color differs from benign skin lesions and other non-melanoma cancers using digital color analysis.
  • Researchers analyzed clinical images from 46 patients, focusing on color differences using RGB and the CIE Lab color system, to assist in differentiating MCC from cherry angiomas, hemangiomas, and basal/squamous cell carcinomas.
  • The results showed significant color parameter differences between MCC and other lesions, suggesting that color analysis could be useful in diagnosing skin cancers, while emphasizing the need for more extensive studies to confirm these findings.

Introduction: The basophil activation test (BAT) is a flow cytometry laboratory technique that assesses the level of activation indicators expressed on the surface of basophils. We conducted a real-life study in a prospective cohort of patients with reported drug hypersensitivity reactions to determine the true relevance of BAT as a diagnostic tool for assessing immediate hypersensitivity reactions to medicines.

Methods: We prospectively assessed individuals with clinical suspicion of immediate hypersensitivity reactions to drugs over a 2-year period.
