Isolated Kratom Use Disorder Treated With Extended-Release Buprenorphine Taper.

This case report highlights a 36-year-old male without history of psychiatric disease, chronic pain, or substance use disorder who developed severe substance use disorder per Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders , Fifth Edition criteria to kratom. He was successfully treated with sublingual buprenorphine after a 3-year period of intermittent withdrawal management and trials of oral and extended-release injectable naltrexone. After a period of abstinence from kratom, he was tapered from buprenorphine using 2 monthly injections of 100 mg extended-release buprenorphine.

Electroconvulsive Therapy in Multiple Sclerosis.

We performed a literature search regarding the safety and efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy in patients with multiple sclerosis and comorbid psychiatric symptoms. Literature review was conducted via PubMed databases. Of the cases we reviewed, most subjects with multiple sclerosis reported significant psychiatric symptom relief, with only a handful reporting neurologic deterioration.

In vitro inhibition of Plasmodium falciparum rosette formation by Curdlan sulfate.

Spontaneous binding of infected erythrocytes to uninfected erythrocytes to form rosettes is a property of some strains of Plasmodium falciparum that is linked to severe complications of malaria. Curdlan sulfate (CRDS) is a sulfated glycoconjugate compound that is chemically similar to known rosette-inhibiting drugs such as heparin. CRDS has previously been shown to have antimalarial activity in vitro and is safe for clinical use.
