Factors Associated With the Presence and Severity of Nutritional Impact Symptoms in Individuals With Head and Neck Cancer Before Treatment.

As head and neck cancer (HNC) affects regions directly related to the digestive tract, it is consistently associated with nutritional impact symptoms (NISs), which further reduce food intake and affect nutritional status. Early identification of patients with NIS can assist therapy. This is a cross-sectional study with HNC patients from a cancer reference hospital.

Cancer symptom clusters, cardiovascular risk, and quality of life of patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy: A longitudinal pilot study.

Patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy may have different cancer symptom clusters (CSC) that negatively impact their quality of life (QoL). These symptoms can sometimes arise from the disease itself or as a result of their cancer treatment. This study aimed to: examine the feasibility of longitudinal testing of CSC pattern and QoL in a sample of adult cancer patients undergoing outpatient chemotherapy; to identify the cardiovascular risk of patients with cancer undergoing outpatient chemotherapy; and to investigate the most prevalent CSC and their impact on the QoL of these patients.

Introduction: Disparities in prostate cancer care have been evidenced and associated with sociodemographic and clinical factors, which establish the time for diagnosis and initiation of treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the association of sociodemographic and clinical variables with the onset of prostate cancer treatment.

Methods: This is a prospective longitudinal cohort study with secondary data with a population of men with prostate cancer attended in the periods 2010-2011 and 2013-2014 at the Santa Rita de Cássia Hospital in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil.

Survival analysis of penile cancer patients treatedat a tertiary oncology hospital.

This article aims to estimate the specific survival of patients with penile cancer treated at a state tertiary oncology hospital. The study included 100 cases incidents patients with penile cancer treated at a cancer center, from 2000 to 2011, follow-up to December 31, 2012. The hospital-based cancer registry and medical records were used as data sources.

Nutritional screening in hospitalized pediatric patients: a systematic review.

Objective: This systematic review aimed to verify the available scientific evidence on the clinical performance and diagnostic accuracy of nutritional screening tools in hospitalized pediatric patients.

Data Source: A search was performed in the Medline (National Library of Medicine United States), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences), PubMed (US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health), in the SCIELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), through CAPES portal (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior), bases Scopus e Web of Science. The descriptors used in accordance with the Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS)/Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list were "malnutrition", "screening", and "pediatrics", as well as the equivalent words in Portuguese.

Breast cancer mortality among patients attending a cancer hospital, Vitoria, ES.

This study aimed to investigate the association between mortality of breast cancer women and the social-demographic and clinical characteristics. During the mortality study of 1,086 women diagnosed with breast cancer and treated from 2000 to 2005 at a cancer hospital in the city of Vitória, Espírito Santo, medical records and tumor registration cards were controlled. The Mortality Information System and the Reclink program were used to identify 280 deaths.

Food tolerance in patients submitted to gastric bypass: the importance of using an integrated and interdisciplinary approach.

Background: Under the restrictive component, patients undergoing gastric bypass may have food intolerance with or without complications.

Methods: This study used quantitative, analytical, observational methodology with patients submitted to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass without the placement of a ring at Hospital Universitário do Rio Grande do Norte in the city of Natal, Brazil between July 2005 and August 2010. Out of 176 patients monitored after surgery by the interdisciplinary team, 47 took part in the study.
