Annona crassiflora Mart. is an endemic plant from Brazilian Cerrado (savanna) biome, commonly employed in traditional medicine to treat wounds, diarrhea, and scalp infections. The pulp of the fruits is edible and has a characteristic taste, being employed to prepare sweets like jam, cakes, and ice cream by the people who live in the region of the Cerrado, although the peels are discarded.

Article Synopsis
  • Embryonic lipids are essential for cell membrane formation and metabolism, and the study focused on the role of ELOVL5 in these processes during embryonic development.
  • Bovine embryos were treated with morpholino to knock down ELOVL5 expression, along with control groups, and various developmental and lipid metrics were assessed.
  • Results showed that while ELOVL5 knockdown increased lipid droplet deposition, it led to a decrease in specific lipid types without negatively impacting embryonic development or the number of cells in blastocysts.

In this study, we evaluated the modulation effect of long-chain Acyl-CoA synthetase during early embryo development. Bovine embryos were cultured in four groups: positive modulation (ACS+) with GW3965 hydrochloride, negative modulation (ACS-) with Triacsin C, association of both modulators (ACS±), and control. Embryo development rates were not altered (P>0.

Corynebacterium bovis is a mastitis-causing microorganism responsible for economic losses related to decrease in milk production. The aim of the study was identify Corynebacterium spp. strains recovered from milk samples of subclinical mastitis by using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS).

Phytopathogens are the main disease agents that promote attack of cocoa plantations in all tropical countries. The similarity of the symptoms caused by different phytopathogens makes the reliable identification of the diverse species a challenge. Correct identification is important in the monitoring and management of these pests.

The enantiomers of sulfoxide proton pump inhibitors--omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole and Ro 18-5364--were enantiomerically separated by liquid chromatography at multimilligram scale on a polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phase using normal and polar organic conditions as mobile phase. The values of the recovery and production rate were significant for each enantiomer; better results were achieved using a solid-phase injection system. However, this system was applied just for the enantiomeric separation of omeprazole to demonstrate the applicability of this injection mode at milligram scale.

Kielcorins are xanthonolignoids with protein kinase C inhibition and antitumor activities. Four racemates were enantioresolved at a multimilligram scale on tris-3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate amylose phase using polar organic conditions as mobile phase. The low-solubility of these compounds conditioned the injection amount and consequently the productivity.
