Introduction: Abnormal levels of serum and urinary markers occur in the presence of renal damage associated to obstructive uropathy. Urinary and serum transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGFß1) and carbohydrate antigen (CA 19-9) have not yet been evaluated in an experimental model of obstructive uropathy.

Material And Methods: Rats were divided into seven groups: reference, sham operation, unilateral nephrectomy, complete unilateral ureteral obstruction, partial unilateral ureteral obstruction, partial bilateral ureteral obstruction, and unilateral nephrectomy with contralateral partial ureteral obstruction.

Purpose: To determine whether rosiglitazone-enriched diet offer protection in a classical model of liver ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats.

Methods: Two days before the experiment, rats were divided into 2 groups: Control Group (n=13) rats fed with standard diet; Rosi Group (n=13): rats fed with a powdered standard diet supplemented with rosiglitazone. The animals were submitted to liver ischemia-reperfusion by clamping the pedicle of median and left anterolateral lobes.

Introduction: The main extra-hepatic manifestation of hepatitis C is mixed cryoglobulinemia (MC). The aim of this study was to evaluate its prevalence among patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC), to correlate its presence to host and virological variables and to the response to combined therapy with interferon-alpha and ribavirin.

Casuistic And Methods: 202 CHC naive patients (136 with chronic hepatitis and 66 with cirrhosis) were consecutively evaluated for the presence of cryoglobulins.

Helicobacter pylori is an important human pathogen that causes chronic gastritis and is associated with development of peptic ulcer disease and gastric malignancies. The vacuolating cytotoxin (vacA), cagA gene, and babA2 gene are important virulence factor involving gastric diseases. Eighty-nine Helicobacter pylori-positive gastric biopsies were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction and Southern blotting for H.
