Janthinobacterium kumbetense sp. nov., a violacein-producing bacterium isolated from spring water in Turkey, and investigation of antimicrobial activity of violacein.

Strain GKT was isolated from the Kumbet plateu of Giresun in Turkey. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain GKT belonged to genus Janthinobacterium and 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities with all type strains of the genus Janthinobacterium were 98.89%-99.

A violacein-producing bacterium was isolated from a mud sample collected near a hot spring on Kümbet Plateau in Giresun Province and named the GK strain. According to the phylogenetic tree constructed using 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the GK strain was identified and named Janthinobacterium sp. GK.

The Role of Pneumococcal Pneumonia among Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Adult Turkish Population: TurkCAP Study.

Objective: To evaluate the rate of pneumococcal pneumonia (PP) among patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in Turkey and to investigate and compare features of PP and non-PP CAP patients.

Material And Methods: This multicenter, non-interventional, prospective, observational study included adult CAP patients (age ≥ 18 years). Diagnosis of PP was based on the presence of at least 1 positive laboratory test result for Streptococcus pneumoniae (blood culture or sputum culture or urinary antigen test [UAT]) in patients with radiographic findings of pneumonia.

This work deals with the taxonomic study of a bacterium, strain Tp12(T), isolated from caterpillars of the pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775; Lepidoptera, Thaumetopoeidae). The isolate was assigned to the genus Brevibacterium on the basis of a polyphasic taxonomic study, including morphological and biochemical characteristics, 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, fatty acid analysis and DNA G+C content. The highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to this isolate was approximately 96 %, with the type strains of Brevibacterium album and Brevibacterium samyangense.

A highly pathogenic strain of Bacillus thuringiensis serovar kurstaki in lepidopteran pests.

In order to detect and identify the most toxic Bacillus thuringiensis strains against pests, we isolated a B. thuringiensis strain (Bn1) from Balaninus nucum (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), the most damaging hazelnut pest. Bn1 was characterized via morphological, biochemical, and molecular techniques.

Characterization of a highly pathogenic Bacillus thuringiensis strain isolated from common cockchafer, Melolontha melolontha.

[Case report of a second resection of rectal leiomyosarcoma due to recurrence after 10 years].

A leiomyosarcoma of the rectum is a rare disease, and cases of a recurrence are even more rare. Reported is the case of a patient who, in 1987, underwent a per sacral resection of a rectal tumor which was diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma. In 1987, after symptoms that showed that the patient's feces had become narrower, a recurrence of this tumor was diagnosed, so that the patient again underwent an abdominoperineal rectomy.
