Introduction: Hypertension is a leading risk factor for development of heart failure, stroke and renal disease in the elderly.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate, by means of a prespecified secondary analysis of a 12-week, open-label, single-arm, dose-titration study, the blood pressure (BP)-lowering efficacy and safety of an olmesartan medoxomil (OM)/hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)-based titration regimen in patients aged ≥65 years with hypertension. Subgroups were stratified by age (≥65 to ≤75 or >75 years), sex (male or female) and race (Black or non-Black).

The safety and efficacy of an amlodipine/olmesartan medoxomil (OM)-based titration regimen was assessed in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. After a 2- to 3-week placebo run-in period, 207 patients received amlodipine 5 mg and were uptitrated to amlodipine/OM 5/20, 5/40, and 10/40 mg and then amlodipine/OM 10/40 mg plus hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 and 25 mg in a step-wise manner at 3-week intervals if the seated blood pressure (BP) remained ≥120/70 mm Hg.

Objective: To evaluate the comparative efficacy and safety of once-daily olmesartan medoxomil (OM) and losartan potassium (LOS) in patients with hypertension.

Methods: This was a multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-blind, active-comparator, forced-titration study. After a 3-week placebo run-in, 941 patients were randomized in an 8:1:9 ratio to once-daily treatment with OM (20 mg for 4 weeks, then OM 40 mg for 4 weeks [n = 420]), placebo plus OM (placebo for 2 weeks, then OM 20 mg for 2 weeks and OM 40 mg for 4 weeks [n = 52]), or LOS (50 mg for 4 weeks, then LOS 100 mg for 4 weeks [n = 469]).

This study examined the effect of olmesartan medoxomil (OM) +/- hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) on mean 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure, mean seated cuff (Se) blood pressure (BP), and SeBP goal achievement in elderly (65 years and older) patients with hypertension. After a 2- to 3-week placebo run-in period, patients received OM 20 mg, up-titrated to OM 40 mg, and then added HCTZ 12.5 mg to 25 mg in a stepwise manner at 3-week intervals if SeBP remained >or=120/70 mm Hg.
