Background: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is an effective treatment for colorectal peritoneal metastases (CPM), increasing overall survival in selected patients. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the effect of neoadjuvant and adjuvant systemic chemotherapy on overall survival in patients with CPM undergoing CRS and HIPEC, compared with those who receive CRS and HIPEC alone.
Methods: A systematic literature review was performed using the PubMed database, and the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines formed the structure of the review.
Background: Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) and dexamethasone are widely used to treat brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), although there have been no randomised clinical trials showing that WBRT improves either quality of life or overall survival. Even after treatment with WBRT, the prognosis of this patient group is poor. We aimed to establish whether WBRT could be omitted without a significant effect on survival or quality of life.

This chapter considers the specific cellular responses controlled by the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway, which is instructive with regard to a number of important steps involved in the development of the brain.
