Providing 'professionalism with compassion'; how the time for caring communication can improve experiences at the end-of-life at home, findings from a realist evaluation.

Background: For many patients and caregivers, attending to dying and death at home will be a new and fearful experience. This research brings new evidence on the central support of the Rapid Response Service (RRS), provided to those who chose to die at home. RRS's are variable, although all seek to avoid unwanted hospital admissions and to respond flexibly to suit individual preferences for support.

The impact and value of the Parkinson's nurse specialist to people with Parkinson's and their care partners: a grounded theory qualitative study.

Background: Where available, Parkinson's Nurse Specialists (PNS) provide a range of care, support, guidance, and advocacy for people with Parkinson's (PwP), and, where appropriate, their care partners (CP). Parkinson's is a complex and progressive condition. Consequently, evaluating health outcomes is not a reliable method to understand the value and impact of PNS.

'For Want of a Nail': developing a transparent approach to retroduction and early initial programme theory development in a realist evaluation of community end of life care services.

A crucial part of theory-driven realist thinking is retroduction, the process of looking backwards for explanation of how and why things may be. Conducted early in the realist evaluation process, it provides a foundation for evidenced 'theory gleaning'. Despite retroduction being an inherent part of the realist process, it is often 'hidden' in realist reports.

Drinking Carling Out of Stella Glasses: People and Place in the Missing Middle.

As trends of social and economic change allow precarity to inch into the lives of those who may have been more accustomed to security (Standing, 2011, 2014), this paper addresses the response of some young people who are caught "betwixt and between" in potentially liminal states (Turner, 1967). Those whose families have undertaken intra- or intergenerational social mobility and who have made a home in a place, Ingleby Barwick in Teesside, that seems to be of them and for them-an in-between place that is seen as "not quite" middle or working class. This paper draws data from a research project that adopted a qualitative phenomenological approach to uncover the meaning of experiences for participants.
