Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is a physical therapy intervention used to treat muscle weakness. NMES-elicited forces during therapy are correlated with strength gains. Patient discomfort limits NMES-elicited forces potentially compromising strength gains and the efficacy of this invention.
