Anxiety and Depression in Patients with Histiocytic Neoplasms and their Associated Clinical Features.

Anxiety and depression are common in many cancers but have not been systematically studied in patients with histiocytic neoplasms (HN). We sought to estimate rates of anxiety and depression and identify clinical features and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) associated with anxiety and depression in patients with HN. A registry-based cohort of patients with HN completing PROs including the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) from 2018-2023 was identified.

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is an ultra-rare hematologic neoplasm characterized by somatic mutations of the MAPK pathway and by accumulation of lesional histiocytes within tissues. Clinical phenotypes and sites of disease involvement are heterogenous in ECD, and no tool exists for systematic and comprehensive assessment of ECD symptomatology. We describe a collaborative effort among ECD specialists, patient-reported outcome (PRO) methodologists, and ECD patients to develop the Erdheim-Chester Disease Symptom Scale (ECD-SS): a symptom inventory for clinical ECD care and evaluation of ECD therapies.

Sadly caught up in the moment: an exploration of horizontal violence.

The behaviors associated with horizontal violence can have negative consequences for nurses, patients, and organizations. Participants in this study were sent a survey that listed nine behaviors associated with horizontal violence. They were asked if they had witnessed, experienced, or neither witnessed nor experienced the nine behaviors.

Gradually Guiding Nursing Students through Their Capstone Course: Registered Nurse Preceptors Share Their Experiences.

Professional precepted immersion courses (capstone) have become the standard as a means to prepare senior nursing students to enter the workforce. Preceptors have a significant role in developing the student nurse, yet exactly how to prepare preceptors for this role has been an ongoing discussion. This qualitative inquiry explored the educational needs of clinical registered nurse (RN) preceptors who work directly with senior nursing students in a professional precepted immersion (capstone) course.

Voices of experience: reflections of nurse educators.

Background: Recent data reported by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing suggest that nursing education is experiencing a continued increase in applicants. However, because of a faculty shortage, many qualified students are denied enrollment. Strategies that would encourage individuals to consider a career in nursing education would somewhat alleviate applicant restrictions.

This article describes the process used by a multi-institutional organization to engage nurses in using and conducting nursing research using the Clinical Scholar Model. The challenges faced on the journey to engage nurses in questioning their practice and searching for answers are highlighted. Key resources necessary for a successful outcome are identified.

Gout medication treatment patterns and adherence to standards of care from a managed care perspective.

Objective: To determine allopurinol treatment patterns and adherence to published standards of care for patients with gout.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective claims analysis in a managed care database included patients 18 years or older, with continuous eligibility for 1 year before and after the start date and 2 or more visits during which the gout disease code (274.xx) was assigned or 1 or more pharmacy prescriptions for a gout-specific medication between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2002 (intake period).

Serum urate levels and gout flares: analysis from managed care data.

Background: The desired serum urate level (SUA) for prevention of gout attacks is widely recommended to be in the subsaturating range, <6.0 mg/dL.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate attainment of this target SUA among gout patients on allopurinol in a naturalistic setting and to assess its impact on gout flare risk.

Assessing clients' sexual health as a component of holistic nursing practice: senior nursing students share their experiences.

A phenomenological study was conducted to investigate baccalaureate nursing students' experiences with assessing the sexual health of their clients. The participants were 10 female nursing students.
