Aim: This study aimed to investigate and compare the cost, affordability, and accessibility of three elimination diet approaches for the treatment of patients with eosinophilic esophagitis: the two-, four- and six-food elimination diets and with comparison to a standard diet.
Methods: An evidence-based modelling process was undertaken for costing and accessibility, including the development of three hypothetical reference families; four food baskets were modified from an established benchmark for each diet. Baskets were costed across eastern Melbourne, Australia.
Insulin resistance (IR) is apparent when tissues responsible for clearing glucose from the blood, such as adipose and muscle, do not respond properly to appropriate signals. IR is estimated based on fasting blood glucose and insulin, but some measures also incorporate an oral glucose challenge. Certain (poly)phenols, as supplements or in foods, can improve insulin resistance by several mechanisms including lowering postprandial glucose, modulating glucose transport, affecting insulin signalling pathways, and by protecting against damage to insulin-secreting pancreatic β-cells.

The objective of this review was to investigate the effect of probiotics on fasting plasma glucose (FPG), insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and LDL-cholesterol levels in pregnant women diagnosed with GDM. Seven electronic databases were searched for RCTs published in English between 2001 and 2017 investigating the metabolic effects of a 6-8 week dietary probiotic intervention in pregnant women following diagnosis with GDM.
