Here we present a new 850-year long coccolithophore record from core SO130-289KL in the northeastern Arabian Sea that spans the Greenland Interstadial 20-Greenland Stadial 20 transition including the timing of the ∼74 ka Youngest Toba Tuff (YTT) supereruption. During the warm interstadial, the coccolithophore assemblage is characterized by Gephyrocapsa oceanica (41%) and Florisphaera profunda (30%) while the succeeding cold stadial is distinguished by the abundance of small placolith species (Emiliania huxleyi + G. ericsonii) (52%).

Objective: Low-dose computed tomography has been proven to reduce mortality, yet utilization remains low. The purpose of this study is to identify factors that impact the utilization of lung cancer screening.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of our institution's primary care network from November 2012 to June 2022 to identify patients who were eligible for lung cancer screening.

The current study investigated the predictive ability of language knowledge and reported strategy use on reading comprehension performance in English-speaking monolingual and bilingual students. One hundred fifty-five children in grade 4 through 6 (93 bilinguals and 62 monolinguals) were assessed on receptive vocabulary, word reading fluency, reading comprehension, and reading strategy use in English. An additional 38 adult bilinguals (i.

Reliable data about collection, volume, tonnage, stream composition, and disposal price have long been described as key components of successful solid waste management planning. Yet, concerns about data quality and quantity have continued to limit even the most sincere, progressive waste management schemes. This paper examines solid waste management data that has been collected in the US state of New Jersey starting in the 1960s.

Meta-analyses of field studies have shown that biomass, density, species richness, and size of organisms protected by no-take marine reserves generally increase over time. The magnitude and timing of changes in these response variables, however, vary greatly and depend upon the taxonomic groups protected, size and type of reserve, oceanographic regime, and time since the reserve was implemented. We conducted collaborative, fishery-independent surveys of fishes for seven years in and near newly created marine protected areas (MPAs) in central California, USA.

Current hospital practices surrounding the use of human milk and fortification are suboptimal. Safety of milk preparation should be a priority, as should optimization of the milk to meet the nutritional needs of hospitalized infants. This article describes the implementation of a human milk management center (HMMC) at a children's hospital.

Infants born with a giant omphalocele often require multiple surgeries requiring a lengthy hospital stay. These vulnerable infants may experience a long period of being NPO (nothing by mouth), followed by slowly advancing to enteral feeds. Human milk is the ideal method of nutrition for all infants and should be used to initiate enteral feeds in infants recovering from omphalocele closure surgeries.

Memory for emotional experiences often persists longer than memory for neutral experiences. The present study examined how encoding processes influence memory retention across 0.5- or 24-h delays and whether these processes differ between emotionally arousing and neutral information.

Individuals report remembering emotional items vividly. It is debated whether this report reflects enhanced memory accuracy or a bias to believe emotional memories are vivid. We hypothesized emotion would enhance memory accuracy, improving memory for contextual details.

The impact of kidney stone disease is significant worldwide, yet methods for quantifying stone components remain limited. A new approach requiring minimal sample preparation for the quantitative analysis of kidney stone components has been investigated utilizing attenuated total internal reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FT-IR). Calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) and hydroxylapatite (HAP), two of the most common constituents of urinary stones, were used for quantitative analysis.

Background: The value of entering women younger than age 40 in breast cancer screening programs (SPs) remains unclear.

Methods: Data from the Oregon Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) for the period December 31, 2000 through July 1, 2003 were reviewed with a focus on women 39 years of age or younger. Information on cancers detected in this group was extracted from The Oregon State Cancer Registry.

Hypothermia after resuscitation from cardiac arrest reduces functional and histological brain injury. Stimulation of neurotrophic factors may contribute to the beneficial effects of hypothermia. This study examined the effects of cardiac arrest and induced hypothermia on regional levels of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) over the first 24 h after rat cardiac arrest.

In Staphylococcus aureus, enterotoxin B (SEB) is a superantigen that activates host interleukins and induces adverse responses, ranging from food poisoning to toxic shock. The alternate sigma factor, sigmaB (SigmaB), and agr are two known regulators of S. aureus.
