The Influence of Participation in an Intensive Care Trial on Health Practitioners' Knowledge of the Results-A Self-Reported Survey.

Aim: The Intensive Care Unit Randomised Trial Comparing Two Approaches to Oxygen Therapy Trial (ICU-ROX) compared conservative oxygen therapy with usual care in mechanically ventilated adults in Australian and New Zealand intensive care units. Dissemination focused on publication and presentation, with no targeted approach. The current study aimed to investigate whether health practitioners from intensive care units that participated in ICU-ROX were more likely to report they knew the trial results and had read the publication than those from intensive care units that did not participate; explore whether there was a difference between doctors' and nurses' knowledge of the ICU-ROX results and whether they read the publication.

Circulating Neoplastic-Immune Hybrid Cells Are Biomarkers of Occult Metastasis and Treatment Response in Pancreatic Cancer.

Background/objectives: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) presents significant diagnostic and prognostic challenges, as current biomarkers frequently fail to accurately stage disease, predict rapid metastatic recurrence (rPDAC), or assess response to neoadjuvant therapy (NAT). We investigated the potential for circulating neoplastic-immune hybrid cells (CHCs) as a non-invasive, multifunctional biomarker for PDAC.

Methods: Peripheral blood specimens were obtained from patients diagnosed with PDAC.

Objective: This study aimed to characterize the perceived priorities of state and county policy makers for youth mental health services and the factors that influence those priorities.

Methods: Mental health agency officials (N=338; N=221 state officials, N=117 county officials) representing 49 states completed a Web-based survey in 2019-2020. On 5-point scales, respondents rated the extent to which 15 issues were priorities for their agency in providing youth mental health services and the extent to which nine factors influenced those priorities.

Learning to Trust Yourself: Decision-Making Skills Among Parents of Children With Medical Complexity.

Context: Children with medical complexity have substantial medical needs and their caregivers must make many challenging decisions about their care. Caregivers often become more involved in decisions over time, but it is unclear what skills they develop that facilitate this engagement.

Objectives: To describe the skills that caregivers developed as they gained experience making medical decisions.

Documenting the Full Value of Vaccination: A Systematic Review of Value Frameworks.

Objectives: Economic evaluations of vaccination may not fully account for nonhealth patient impacts on families, communities, and society (ie, broader value elements). Omission of broader value elements may reflect a lack of established measurement methodology, lack of agreement over which value elements to include in economic evaluations, and a lack of consensus on whether the value elements included should vary by vaccination type or condition. We conducted a systematic review of value frameworks to identify broader value elements and measurement guidance that may be useful for capturing the full value of vaccination.

Being effective and supervising for thesis success in nursing coursework master degrees: A qualitative descriptive study.

Background: Master's degrees for nurses have various foci including clinical practice, leadership and education, with some programs consisting of coursework, while others offer hybrid study that combines coursework and research. Multiple formats are associated with offering the research component. The research component is often termed the minor thesis.

Use of Latent Class Analysis to Predict Intensive Care Unit Admission and Mortality in Children with a Major Congenital Anomaly.

Objective: To define major congenital anomaly (CA) subgroups and assess outcome variability based on defined subgroups.

Study Design: This population-based cohort study used registries in Denmark for children born with a major CA between January 1997 and December 2016, with follow-up until December 2018. We performed a latent class analysis (LCA) using child and family clinical and sociodemographic characteristics present at birth, incorporating additional variables occurring until age of 24 months.

Recurrent Intensive Care Episodes and Mortality Among Children With Severe Neurologic Impairment.

Importance: Children requiring care in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) are known to have increased risk of subsequent mortality. Children with severe neurologic impairment (SNI)-who carry neurologic or genetic diagnoses with functional impairments and medical complexity-are frequently admitted to PICUs. Although recurrent PICU critical illness episodes (PICU-CIEs) are assumed to indicate a poor prognosis, the association between recurrent PICU-CIEs and mortality in this patient population is poorly understood.

Systematic development of ionizable lipid nanoparticles for placental mRNA delivery using a design of experiments approach.

Ionizable lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have gained attention as mRNA delivery platforms for vaccination against COVID-19 and for protein replacement therapies. LNPs enhance mRNA stability, circulation time, cellular uptake, and preferential delivery to specific tissues compared to mRNA with no carrier platform. However, LNPs are only in the beginning stages of development for safe and effective mRNA delivery to the placenta to treat placental dysfunction.

Effects of landscape simplicity on crop yield: A reanalysis of a global database.

Ecological theory on diversity suggests that agriculture requires sufficient biodiversity, ecological function, and critical ecosystem services to remain sustainable and resilient. As such, research related to the effect of ecosystem services and diversity on crop yields has increased significantly in the past decade. One such study by Dainese and colleagues that presented a global synthesis of a compiled database of 1,475 crop experiments related to pollination and pest control ecosystem services and crop yields quickly garnered attention in the literature with more than 540 citations since its publication in 2019.

Unintended consequences of disseminating behavioral health evidence to policymakers: Results from a survey-based experiment.

Background: Communication research demonstrates that messages often have unintended consequences, but this work has received limited attention in implementation science. This dissemination experiment sought to determine whether state-tailored policy briefs about the behavioral health consequences of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), compared to national policy briefs on the topic, increased state legislators'/staffers' perceptions of the policy brief relevance and parental blame for the consequences of ACEs, and whether effects differed between Democrats and Republicans.

At the onset of pregnancy, people with preexisting conditions face additional challenges in carrying their pregnancy to term, as the safety of the developing fetus and pregnant person is a significant factor of concern. Nanoparticle (NP)-based therapies have displayed success against various conditions and diseases in non-pregnant patients, but the use of NPs in maternal-fetal health applications needs to be better established. Local vaginal delivery of NPs is a promising administration route with the potential to yield high cargo retention in the vagina and improved therapeutic efficacy compared to systemic administration that results in rapid NP clearance by the hepatic first-pass effect.

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disorder defined as the deposition and growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, including but not limited to the pelvic peritoneum, rectovaginal septum, and ovaries. Relapse to drug seeking involves transient synaptic remodelling that occurs in response to drug-associated cues. This remodelling includes activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) to initiate catalytic signalling in the extracellular matrix in the nucleus accumbens core (NAcore). We hypothesized that MMP activity would be increased in the NAcore during cue-induced methamphetamine (meth) seeking in a rat model of meth use and relapse.

Self-management for sickle cell disease among patients and parents: A qualitative study.

Methods: The qualitative descriptive design was employed. The study involved 19 participants comprising adult SCD patients ≥16 years, and nine parents of SCD children ≤ 15 years.
