Purpose: Children with typical hearing and various language and cognitive challenges can struggle with processing speech in background noise. Thus, children with a language disorder (LD) are at risk for difficulty with speech recognition in poorer acoustic environments.

Method: The current study compared the effects of background speech-shaped noise (SSN) with and without reverberation on sentence recognition for children with LD ( = 9) and typical language development (TLD; = 9).

Objective: Recently developed, the Radioear B81 bone oscillator allows for higher bone conduction vibration output; however, normative data are lacking regarding its use in vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) testing. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of age on cervical and ocular VEMP (c- and oVEMP) responses using the B81 and to compare with air conduction stimuli (ACS) and impulse hammer (IH) VEMP response characteristics.

We present the case of a 13 year old boy, with sudden onset painful unilateral visual loss, prior to commencing chemotherapy for alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Cases of para-neoplastic optic neuritis have been reported in adult cancer patients, however there are no published reports of this phenomenon occurring in children. Our patient had full recovery of his vision, following 6 weeks treatment with steroids, immunoglobulins and standard chemotherapy as per high risk arm of European pediatric soft tissue sarcoma group (EpSSG) Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) 2005 guidelines.

Method: In Study 1, 59 postsecondary students with DLD and 60 with normal development (ND) took the California Verbal Learning Test-Second Edition, Adult Version (Delis, Kramer, Kaplan, & Ober, 2000). In Study 2, 23 postsecondary students with DLD and 24 with ND attempted to learn 9 novel words in each of 3 training conditions: uncued test, cued test, and no test (passive study).

We present concurrent X-linked chondrodysplasia punctata and ichthyosis vulgaris in adolescent fraternal twin girls, notable for initial presentation with dry skin in adolescence, characterized by dark-brown scale typical of ichthyosis vulgaris and blaschkolinear, atrophic, scaly plaques. This constellation of findings prompted further genetic investigation. Using a multigene approach to examine 39 genes associated with congenital ichthyosis, next-generation sequencing revealed a novel heterozygous missense mutation at a mutational hotspot in the EBP gene c.
