Normal ovarian function requires the expression of estrogen receptors α (ESR1) and β (ESR2) in distinct cell types within the ovary. The double estrogen receptor knockout (αβERKO) ovary had the appearance of seminiferous tubule-like structures that expressed SOX9; this phenotype was lost when the animals were repeatedly backcrossed to the C57BL/6J genetic background. A new line of ERKO mice, Ex3αβERKO, was developed for targeted disruption on a mixed genetic background.

Endometriosis is a debilitating disease that affects about 10% of reproductive-aged adolescents and women. The etiology of the disease is unknown; however, a prevailing hypothesis is that endometriosis develops from retrograde menstruation, where endometrial tissue and fluids flow back through the oviducts into the peritoneal cavity. There is no cure for endometriosis, and symptoms are treated palliatively.

Seventy five percent of the world's food crops benefit from insect pollination. Hence, there has been increased interest in how global change drivers impact this critical ecosystem service. Because standardized data on crop pollination are rarely available, we are limited in our capacity to understand the variation in pollination benefits to crop yield, as well as to anticipate changes in this service, develop predictions, and inform management actions.

Endogenous endophthalmitis (EE) is a potentially blinding ophthalmological emergency with poor visual prognosis requiring a high index of clinical suspicion to obtain a prompt diagnosis. The main factors associated with poor visual outcomes include the virulence of the causative organism and timing of intervention. Infective endocarditis can present with nonspecific ocular complaints and remains an important risk factor for developing EE.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are being employed in numerous consumer goods and applications; however, they are renowned for inducing negative cellular consequences including toxicity, oxidative stress, and an inflammatory response. Nanotoxicological outcomes are dependent on numerous factors, including physicochemical, biological, and environmental influences. Currently, NP safety evaluations are carried out in both cell-based in vitro and animal in vivo models, with poor correlation between these mechanisms.

Background: Use of anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) is an important component of multimodal pain control after orthopedic procedures to avoid opioid overutilization and abuse. However, the deleterious effects of NSAIDs on tendon healing are of particular concern in rotator cuff repair (RCR). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of celecoxib or placebo on healing rates after RCR when administered in the perioperative and immediate postoperative period using MRI evaluation at one year postoperatively.

Small extracellular vesicles (sEV) are nano-sized (40-150 nm), membrane-encapsulated vesicles that are released by essentially all cells into the extracellular space and function as intercellular signaling vectors through the horizontal transfer of biologic molecules, including microRNA (miRNA) and other small non-coding RNA (ncRNA), that can alter the phenotype of recipient cells. sEV are present in essentially all extracellular biofluids, including serum, urine and saliva, and offer a new avenue for discovery and development of novel biomarkers of various disease states and exposures. The objective of this study was to systematically interrogate similarities and differences between sEV ncRNA derived from saliva, serum and urine, as well as cell-free small ncRNA (cf-ncRNA) from serum.
