Two new methods for the determination of iron by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) are proposed for drinking water. The determination was made after flotation concentration of Fe by using of two new flotation collectors: lead(II) heptyldithiocarbamate, Pb(HpDTC)2 and cobalt(III) heptyldithiocarbamate Co(HpDTC)3. All important parameters for the two proposed procedures were optimised (pH, mass of Pb, mass of Co, amount of HpDTC(-), type of surfactant, induction time, etc.

A fast flotation method for determination of cadmium and lead in aquatic systems by two chromium(III) collectors is described. The first collector is a colloid precipitate of hydrated chromium(III) oxide, Cr2O3 x xH2O, while the second is a bulk chromium(III) pentamethylenedithiocarbamate, Cr(PMDTC)3. Cadmium and lead present in water are incorporated into the collector mass at pH 7.

An accurate, fast, and simple method for determination of thallium in environmental water samples with Zeeman electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ZETAAS) by previous flotation preconcentration is given. The possibility of using cobalt(III) hexamethylenedithiocarbamate as a colloidal precipitate collector for simultaneous flotation separation of Tl(I) and Tl(III) from water matrices was studied. All experimental parameters influencing a proper flotation of both thallium ions were ascertained.
