Ceftazidime-avibactam and ceftolozane-tazobactam susceptibility of multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains in Hungary.

Our objective was to compare the activity ceftazidime-avibactam (C/A) and ceftolozane-tazobactam (C/T) against multidrug (including carbapenem) resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates collected from six diagnostic centers in Hungary and to reveal the genetic background of their carbapenem resistance. Two hundred and fifty consecutive, non-duplicate, carbapenem-resistant multidrug resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa isolates were collected in 2017.

Acquired qnrVC1 and blaNDM-1 resistance markers in an international high-risk Pseudomonas aeruginosa ST773 clone.

A multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa PS1 isolated from urine clinical sample was investigated in this study. The strain exhibited resistance to piperacillin/tazobactam, ciprofloxacin, imipenem, ceftazidime but it was susceptible to colistin. Analysis of whole-genome sequencing data by ResFinder detected various resistance determinants including qnrVC1 and blaNDM-1.

Switching gains and health plan price elasticities: 20 years of managed competition reforms in The Netherlands.

In this paper we estimate health plan price elasticities and financial switching gains for consumers over a 20-year period in which managed competition was introduced in the Dutch health insurance market. The period is characterized by a major health insurance reform in 2006 to provide health insurers with more incentives and tools to compete, and to provide consumers with a more differentiated choice of products. Prior to the reform, in the period 1995-2005, we find a low number of switchers, between 2 and 4% a year, modest average total switching gains of 2 million euros per year and short-term health plan price elasticities ranging from -0.

Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumanii are important nosocomial pathogens with wide intrinsic resistance. However, due to the dissemination of the acquired resistance mechanisms, such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) and metallo beta-lactamase (MBL) production, multidrug resistant strains have been isolated more often.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a Hungarian tourist, who was initially hospitalized in Egypt and later transferred to Hungary.
