A series of isoxazole derivatives were synthesized and their antagonistic activities against LPA stimulation on both LPA(1)/CHO cells and rHSC cells were evaluated. Among them, 3-(4-[4-[1-(2-chloro-cyclopent-1-enyl)-ethoxycarbonylamino]-isoxazol-3- y]]-benzylsulfanyl)-propionic acid (34) showed the most potent activities.

A 65-year-old male was admitted to our hospital because of sudden onset of upper abdominal pain due to the perforation of gastric cancer with synchronous hepatic metastasis. He underwent total gastrectomy with lymphatic dissection of D1 + alpha. Pathological diagnosis of the surgical specimen was moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma.

Secretory carcinoma diagnosed by aspiration biopsy cytology (ABC) disclosed many characteristic figures that were similar to a bunch of grapes, secondary mucous globular structures (MGSs) and clustered MGSs. The MGS was a unit structure of secretory carcinoma composed of a centrally located, small amount of mucus and two or more tumor cells covering it. Other findings were vacuolated cells and mucus in a clear background.

FT-207, 800mg per day, was administered intravenously 2 hours per day for 6 days to 15 patients with gastric cancer. By chemical assay, FT-207 and 5-FU concentrations in the blood and tissues were determined. The FT-207 levels in cancerous tissue, metastatic lymph nodes and normal gastric mucosa were almost equal.

A resected case of undifferentiated, non-oat cell type small cell carcinoma of the esophagus in a 78-year-old Japanese male is presented. Biopsy of a lower esophageal tumor that showed protrusions and centrally ulcerated features on esophageal roentgenograms, was initially misinterpreted as probable malignant lymphoma, because the absence of epithelial arrangement and the presence of abundant fine reticulin fibers encircling individual tumor cells. However, sections of the resected specimen disclosed minute foci consisting of nest formations of tumor cells suggesting an epithelial nature.

1. Amoxicillin was used for treatment of 15 cases of infectious diseases in the surgical field and for prevention of 4 cases of postoperative infection, and good result was obtained in all 19 cases. Especially in the latter 4 cases, amoxicillin showed good preventive effect.
