State of Lung Cancer in Egypt: Moving Towards Improved Guidelines for Prevention, Screening, Treatment, and Clinical Care Programs.

Lung cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally and presents significant challenges in Egypt. In 2023, the first annual meeting of the Thoracic Oncology Multidisciplinary Faculty, organized by the Egyptian Cancer Research Network and the Egyptian Society of Respiratory Neoplasms, was held in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting aimed to address gaps in lung cancer management across Egypt and the broader Middle East and North Africa region.

Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Colorectal, Endometrial, and Gastric, Version 3.2024, NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines In Oncology.

Multigene panel testing has allowed for the detection of a growing number of inherited pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in people at high risk of cancer, including endometrial cancer (EC). Hereditary syndromes associated with EC include Lynch syndrome, PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome, and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. This manuscript provides the latest recommendations from the NCCN Guidelines for Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Colorectal, Endometrial, and Gastric on the screening and management of EC in patients at high risk for these syndromes, as well as the advantages and limitations of multigene panel testing.

Adding sugar to children's beverages: a theory of planned behavior study of Lebanese mothers.

This study, guided by the theory of planned behavior (TPB), aimed to investigate whether attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control can predict parents' intentions to reduce or stop adding sugar to their child's beverages, such as tea or milk. The research also seeks to determine the predictive power of the TPB on the actual behavior of parents in reducing or halting sugar intake in their children's drinks. A questionnaire was developed to assess sweetening beverage behavior variables by mothers of children aged 3-7 years attending Lebanese public schools, with 184 responses retained with no missing values for analysis.

Understanding the Risk Factors, Burden, and Interventions for Chronic Respiratory Diseases in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Scoping Review.

Objective: This scoping review aims to identify risk factors for COPD and asthma, examine the burden and intervention measures, and clarify the findings in the context of climate change, with a particular focus on LMICs.

Methods: Following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, we conducted a scoping review using PubMed, Embase, and Scopus, focusing on studies published from 2011 to 2024.

Results: Our review included 52 studies that encompassed 244,004 participants.

Background: Exercise is associated with improved survival, physical functioning, treatment tolerability, and quality of life in early-stage breast cancer. These same endpoints matter in metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Prior trials in MBC have found exercise to be not feasible or of limited benefit, possibly due to inclusion of patients with heterogeneous disease trajectories.

The effect of resection of gliomas of the primary motor and sensory cortex on functional recovery and seizure outcome: A 10-year retrospective study.

Background: Gliomas, the most common primary brain tumors, pose surgical challenges in eloquent cortex regions due to potential deficits affecting patients' quality of life (QOL) and increased mortality risk. This study investigates motor and sensory recovery postresection of Rolandic cortex gliomas in 40 patients, alongside seizure outcomes and the efficacy of intraoperative techniques such as awake craniotomy.

Methods: This was a 10-year monocentric retrospective study based on the experience of a neurosurgeon in the resection of Rolandic gliomas and its impact on 40 patients' QOL in a period from 2011 to 2020.

Waterpipe tobacco (WPT) smoking is a public health concern, particularly among youth and young adults. The global spread of WPT use has surged because the introduction of pre-packaged flavored and sweetened WPT, which is widely marketed as a safer tobacco alternative. Besides flavorants and sugars, WPT additives include humectants, which enhance the moisture and sweetness of WPT, act as solvents for flavors, and impart smoothness to the smoke, thus increasing appeal to users.

Chemical and physiological interactions between e-liquid constituents: cause for concern?

Studies of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) toxicity have largely focused on individual components such as flavour additives, base e-liquid ingredients (propylene glycol, glycerol), device characteristics (eg, model, components, wattage), use behaviour, etc. However, vaping involves inhalation of chemical mixtures and interactions between compounds can occur that can lead to different toxicities than toxicity of the individual components. Methods based on the additive toxicity of individual chemical components to estimate the health risks of complex mixtures can result in the overestimation or underestimation of exposure risks, since interactions between components are under-investigated.

The COVID-19 pandemic has considerably impacted the clinical education and training of health workers globally, causing severe disruptions to learning environments in healthcare facilities and limiting the acquisition of new clinical skills. Consequently, urgent adaptation measures, including simulation training and e-learning, have been implemented to mitigate the adverse effects of clinical education. This scoping review aims to assess the impact of COVID-19 on medical education and training, examine the implemented adaptation measures, and evaluate their effectiveness in improving health workers' education and training during the pandemic.

Clinically significant germline pathogenic variants are missed by tumor genomic sequencing.

A germline pathogenic variant may be present even if the results of tumor genomic sequencing do not suggest one. There are key differences in the assay design and reporting of variants between germline and somatic laboratories. When appropriate, both tests should be completed to aid in therapy decisions and determining optimal screening and risk-reduction interventions.

Carfilzomib-induced life-threatening lung injury in refractory multiple myeloma.

Introduction: Carfilzomib is a second-generation selective proteasome inhibitor that is commonly used in the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. Carfilzomib is associated with respiratory side effects, such as cough, dyspnea, and upper respiratory tract infection. However, severe pulmonary toxicity is rare and is only reported in a few case reports.
