Magnetic polydopamine nanoparticles as stabilisers for enzyme-Pickering emulsions: Application in the interfacial catalytic reaction of olive oil.

We constructed magnetic polydopamine nanoparticles to stabilise lipase-Pickering emulsions for olive oil deacidification. Emulsifying properties of egg proteins: Influencing factors, modification techniques, and applications.

As an essential food ingredient with good nutritional and functional properties and health benefits, eggs are widely utilized in food formulations. In particular, egg proteins have good emulsification properties and can be commonly used in various food products, such as mayonnaise and baked goods. Egg protein particles can act as stabilizers for Pickering emulsions because they can effectively adsorb at the oil-water interface, reduce interfacial tension, and form a stable physical barrier.

Effect of human-animal interaction on the well-being and quality of life.

Background: COVID-19, the economic and the political crises happening in Lebanon, have enforced social distancing and isolation, causing severe psychological states. However, these psychological consequences have highlighted the aim behind the interactions between humans and animals. To determine the prevalence of sleep disturbance among Lebanese University medical students and residents during their clinical years and investigate associations with night versus day shifts, psychological stress, and fatigue. A single-center cross-sectional study was conducted with medical students in their sixth and seventh years of study as well as residents. A total of 226 medical trainees participated in the study.

Methods: In total 248 medical students and 204 lawyers completed a questionnaire to assess socio-demographic data, attitude toward surrogacy, and three different clinical scenarios to assess patterns of thinking.

Challenges and perspective of cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Lebanese financial crisis: a multicentric cross-sectional study.

Lebanese cancer patients are facing a war on two fronts, between the COVID-19 pandemic and one of the most severe financial crises globally in recent times. This multicentric cross-sectional study was conducted, aiming to analyse challenges and perspective of this particularly vulnerable population. A questionnaire was prepared to assess socio-demographic data, challenges faced during the pandemic, perspectives concerning cancer and COVID-19, a scale was also validated to assess knowledge level regarding COVID-19 in this population.

"We're Just Sitting Ducks": Recurrent Household Flooding as An Underreported Environmental Health Threat in Detroit's Changing Climate.

Recurrent inland urban flooding is an understudied phenomenon that warrants greater attention, particularly in post-industrial cities where aging infrastructure, disinvestment, and climate change threaten public health. We conducted semi-structured interviews in 2017⁻2018 with 18 Detroit residents experiencing recurrent household flooding. We used standard qualitative coding analysis to generate 30 theoretically- and in vivo- derived themes related to flood experience, socioeconomic and health factors, and household, community, and policy interventions for reducing environmental exposures before, during, and after flood events.

Ocular pulse amplitude (OPA) is defined as the difference between maximum and minimum intraocular pressure (IOP) during a cardiac cycle. Average values of OPA range from 1 to 4 mmHg. The purpose of this investigation is to determine the source of an irregular IOP waveform with elevated OPA in a 48-year-old male.

Hyperbaric oxygen and dental extractions in irradiated patients: short- and long-term outcomes.

Purpose: Mandibular osteoradionecrosis (ORN) can occur in patients post-radiation therapy. This study assessed the incidence of ORN in the setting of adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2) and sought to identify risk factors that may predispose to its development.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was completed on patients with a history of radiation therapy to the head and neck who underwent HBO2 prior to and immediately following dental extractions between January 1, 1995, and December 31, 2005, in the hyperbaric medicine unit.

Development of methods to control and modify the transcription of the VEGF gene is an alternative approach that may have therapeutic potential. Electrocardiogram and X-ray findings associated with iatrogenic pulmonary venous gas embolism.

Iatrogenic venous gas embolism (VGE) has been described in cases of patients with hemodialysis catheters and other thoracic central lines. When VGE is present, it may lead to large gas bubbles in the right heart or pulmonary circulation. We reviewed a case of a 52-year-old male hemodialysis patient who inadvertently received an unknown amount of air through a faulty connection in his line during hemodialysis treatment.

Fine tuning of the relaxometry of γ-Fe2O3@SiO2 nanoparticles by tweaking the silica coating thickness.

We report the fine-tuning of the relaxometry of gamma-Fe2O3@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles by adjusting the thickness of the coated silica layer. It is clear that the coating thickness of Fe2O3@SiO2 nanoparticles has a significant impact on the r(1) (at low B0 fields), r(2), and r(2)* relaxivities of their aqueous suspensions. These studies clearly indicate that the silica layer is heterogeneous and has regions that are porous to water and others-that are not.

Intracerebral injection of ibotenate in newborn rodents produces brain damage that mimics that of infants with cerebral palsy. Because maternal infection may contribute to brain injury in preterm infants, we investigated brain damage after maternal inflammation and postnatal ibotenate treatment in a rat model of cerebral palsy.
