Is Unilateral Lymphadenectomy an Option in Selected Patients with Prostate Cancer?

Background: Evidence regarding the relationship between the laterality of lymph node invasion (LNI) and the prostatic lobe affected is limited. Our aim was to review our records of patients with exclusively unilateral localised prostate cancer (PCa) with metastatic LN involvement.

Methods: Between 2006 and 2023, after radical prostatectomy and extended pelvic lymphadenectomy at our centre, thirty patients with intermediate-high risk unilateral PCa and pN1 disease were identified.

Effects of insulin and metformin on fetal kidney development of streptozotocin-induced gestational diabetic albino rats.

Gestational diabetes mellitus is one of common medical complications of pregnancy. Hyperglycemia in utero impairs renal development and produces renal anomalies. Metformin has antioxidant properties and better glycemic control.

Case series of outcomes of a standardized surgical approach for placenta percreta for prevention of ureteral lesions.

Objective: To report the outcomes of women with placenta percreta who were surgically treated by a specialized technique based on gynecologic oncology experience, and to demonstrate its safety in preventing ureteral lesions and reducing blood loss.

Methods: In the present retrospective study, data from patients with placenta percreta radically treated at Hôtel-Dieu de France, Beirut, Lebanon, between December 2012 and January 2017 were reviewed. Demographic, pathology, and delivery data, medical history, per-operative and postoperative information, and neonatal data were assessed.

Toxicity of phospholipases A2 D49 (6-1 and 6-2) and K49 (Bj-VII) from Bothrops jararacussu venom.

Purified phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzymes from Bothrops jararacussu snake venom were examined to evaluate NIH 3T3 and COS7 fibroblast cytotoxicity, as well as muscle myotoxic and inflammatory activities. Separation of fractions Bj-VII (from BthTX-I; a Lys49 PLA2 homolog) and 6-1 and 6-2 (from BthTX-II; an Asp49 PLA2) from B. jararacussu snake venom by SDS-PAGE in tricine buffer in the absence and presence of dithiothreitol revealed a homodimer with an estimated molecular mass of approximately 30 kDa (monomer mass approximately 15 kDa).

Cloning, expression, and structural analysis of recombinant BJcuL, a c-type lectin from the Bothrops jararacussu snake venom.

The lactose-binding lectin from Bothrops jararacussu venom (BJcuL) is a homodimer belonging to group VII of the c-type animal lectins. BJcuL has also been shown to serve as an interesting tool for combating tumor progression by inhibiting cancer and endothelial cell growth. However, detailed structural studies of BJcuL and its biological mechanisms of cytotoxicity are yet to be reported, perhaps because of the non-availability of recombinant proteins in necessary quantities.

[Prenatal diagnosis of congenital diaphragmatic hernia: evaluation of the prognosis].

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate prognostic prenatal factors of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Material And Methods: We designed a retrospective study of 34 patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The infants were delivered at the Edouard Herriot Hospital between September 1, 1994 and June 30, 1998.

[The migrating intrauterine device. Case report and review of the literature].

We report a case of migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) detected during pregnancy one year after insertion. The advanced gestation of the pregnancy and the absence of symptoms lead to expectant management. There were no complications during the pregnancy or delivery.

A computerized measurement of dental relapse following orthognathic surgery.

A computer-programmed osteotomy package was used to measure agreed values from lateral cephalograms preoperatively, postoperatively, and during the follow-up period. The variable representing the postoperative cephalometric analysis predicted by the program was included for further comparisons. The results were used to measure the degree of dental and skeletal relapse during the follow-up period, but only the dental relapse is discussed in the present study.
