Background: Deep learning methods are revolutionizing natural science. In this study, we aim to apply such techniques to develop blood type prediction models based on cheap to analyze and easily scalable screening array genotyping platforms.
Methods: Combining existing blood types from blood banks and imputed screening array genotypes for ~111,000 Danish and 1168 Finnish blood donors, we used deep learning techniques to train and validate blood type prediction models for 36 antigens in 15 blood group systems.
Aims/hypothesis: Metabolic risk factors and plasma biomarkers for diabetes have previously been shown to change prior to a clinical diabetes diagnosis. However, these markers only cover a small subset of molecular biomarkers linked to the disease. In this study, we aimed to profile a more comprehensive set of molecular biomarkers and explore their temporal association with incident diabetes.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, or axial spondyloarthritis on stable TNFi dose and in low disease activity ≥ 12 months were randomised (2:1) to disease activity-guided tapering or control. Blood samples at baseline, 12- and 18-months were evaluated for TNFi drug-levels and ADAb.

Autoimmune neutropenia (AIN) in early childhood is characterized by chronic neutropenia and positivity for human neutrophil antibodies (HNA), resulting in the excessive destruction of neutrophils. The association between regulatory T cells (Tregs) and AIN has been described, and in this study, we investigated three Treg-associated genes, IL-2, IL-10 and FOXP3. The frequencies of three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL-2 -330T>G (rs2069762), +114G>T (rs2069763) and IVS3-116 A>G (rs2069772), four SNPs in IL-10 -3575T>A (rs1800890), -1082G>A (rs1800896), -819 C>T (rs1800871) and -592 C>A (rs1800872) and three SNPs in FOXP3 -3499 A>G (rs3761547), -3279 C>A (rs3761548) and -924 A>G (rs2232365) were compared between 166 Danish AIN patients and 358 healthy controls.

Methods: A selection of 47 biomarkers, including markers of inflammation and vascular stress, were measured in plasma samples from 9876 Danish Blood Donor Study participants. Using regression models, we examined the association between biomarkers and sex, age, Body Mass Index (BMI), and smoking.
HLA studies in patients with autoimmune neutropenia (AIN) have shown very consistent results for the association with HLA class II alleles at low resolution. This study aimed to examine the association of both HLA class I and class II at high resolution to clarify the contribution of risk alleles to the disease. A total of 107 AIN patients were genotyped for six loci of HLA class I (HLA-A, -B and -C) and class II (HLA-DRB1, -DQB1, and -DPB1) genes by a high-resolution (3-field, 6-digit) analysis and compared with HLA typing of 1000 healthy controls.

In this study, we performed genome-wide association studies of self-reported social trust in n = 33,882 Danish blood donors. We observed genome-wide and local evidence of genetic similarity with other brain-related phenotypes and estimated the single nucleotide polymorphism-based heritability of trust to be 6% (95% confidence interval = (2.

Given the importance of neutrophils in immunity, we sought to create awareness of the role of HNA diagnostic services in managing immune neutropenia and transfusion-related acute lung injury. To provide health communities all around the world with access to these services, we conducted a survey to create a directory of these HNA diagnostic services.

To explore genetic causes of recessive lethality, we searched for sequence variants with deficit of homozygosity among 1.52 million individuals from six European populations.

Design: Cross-sectional cohort study.
Setting: Includes Danish active and former blood donors.
Importance: There is a need for better recognition and more extensive research into menstrual migraine (MM) in the general population, and a revision of the diagnostic criteria for MM is warranted to move the field forward. Increased understanding of MM is crucial for improving clinical care, diagnosis, and therapy for MM.
Objectives: To assess the clinical characteristics of MM, including severity and treatment response, and to propose new diagnostic criteria for pure MM and menstrually related migraine.
Background And Purpose: Understanding migraine in a sex-specific manner is crucial for improving clinical care, diagnosis and therapy for both females and males. Here, data on sex differences are provided in the presentation of migraine in a large European-based population cohort, which is representative of the general population.
Methods: A population-based study of 62,672 Danish blood donors (both present and previous donors), of whom 12,658 had migraine, was performed.
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with psychiatric comorbidity. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental disorder associated with systemic and skin inflammation such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Whether HS symptoms are associated with ADHD symptoms remains unexplored.

Preoperative serum samples from 255 patients with PDAC were analyzed for sCD163 using a commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The diagnostic value of sCD163 was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves.

The purpose of this project was to identify and validate multiprotein signatures that could differentiate patients with BTC from non-cancer controls.
Methods: In this study, we included treatment-naïve patients with BTC, healthy controls, and patients with benign conditions including benign biliary tract disease.
We report a genome-wide association study of venous thromboembolism (VTE) incorporating 81,190 cases and 1,419,671 controls sampled from six cohorts. We identify 93 risk loci, of which 62 are previously unreported. Many of the identified risk loci are at genes encoding proteins with functions converging on the coagulation cascade or platelet function.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a heterogeneous disease, which displays sex differences in symptomatology. This study aimed to assess point prevalence of MDD in undiagnosed, healthy adults as well as sex differences in symptomatology and clarify if specific symptoms increased the later need for anti-depressive medication. The study included 51,658 blood donors.
