To combat this escalating issue, this study delves into the formation of plastic reduction behavior among Swiss citizens using an extended theory of planned behavior model. Through an online survey, the study obtained 149 valid responses, which were analyzed using partial least squares-based structural equation modeling.

Effect of ketamine versus alfentanil following midazolam in preventing emergence agitation in children after sevoflurane anaesthesia: a prospective randomized clinical trial.

Objective: To investigate the effect of intranasal ketamine versus alfentanil in addition to oral midazolam for the prevention of emergence agitation in children.

Methods: Children undergoing urological surgery with sevoflurane anaesthesia received oral midazolam 40 min before induction and were then randomly assigned to receive 2 mg/kg ketamine, 10 µg/kg alfentanil or 1 ml isotonic saline intranasally. Parental separation status and mask acceptance were assessed preoperatively.

An earplug technique to reduce the gag reflex during dental procedures.

Background: The gag reflex is a frequent problem occurring during dental treatment procedures, especially while making impressions of the maxillary teeth. The present study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a simple earplug as an external auditory canal stimulator to supress the profound gag reflex and as a second step, to map areas of the oropharynx suppressed by this technique.

Methods: In the first step of the study, 90 patients who had a gag reflex during the impression procedure were allocated to a study group, a sham group, and a control group for evaluating the efficacy of the earplug technique.

OBJECTIVE: Cardiac and kidney diseases are common, and the impact of acute kidney injury (AKI) on patient outcome is well known. We aimed to investigate the incidence of acute cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) and the risk factors and outcomes associated with the disease. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study comprising 289 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF), examining the incidence of AKI defined according to the Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN) classification, the factors contributing to AKI, and the impact of AKI on in-hospital mortality and hospital re-admission.

Background: Although racial and ethnic variations in the morphology of anatomical structures are defined well, the size, shape, and weight of the thyroid gland have not previously been reported in Turkish people. This study provides data about the morphometric features of the thyroid gland, thyroid lobes, and pyramidal lobe, and highlights some anatomical variations in people from the Marmara region in Turkey.

Material And Methods: The material for the present study consisted of thyroid glands obtained from 75 male and 15 female adult cadavers aged between 18 and 80 years.

The increasing use of high-flux membranes for hemodialysis (HD) has raised concerns that these membranes may confer a higher risk of exposure to cytokine-inducing, bacterial substances (CIS) in the dialysate. Several studies, however, reported higher transfer of CIS through low-flux cellulosic than high-flux synthetic membranes. This surprising paradox was explained by adsorption of CIS to certain high-flux membranes.
