Internal Jugular Vein Phlebectasia in a Child: A Case Report.

Neck swellings that appear on straining, crying, and Valsalva maneuver are usually suggestive of laryngocele. Phlebectasia of jugular veins can cause a similar sign but is rare compared to laryngocele. Jugular vein phlebectasia (JVP) is of unknown etiology and is caused by vein dilatation without tortuosity, which is rare in children.

Rare case of temporal bone carcinoma with intracranial extension.

Temporal bone cancer, a relatively rare disease, accounting for less than 0.2% of all tumors of the head and neck and is associated with a poor outcome; often presents in a subtle manner, which may delay diagnosis. It should be suspected in any case of persistent otitis media or otitis externa that fails to improve with adequate treatment.

Metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma to the body of the mandible mimicking an odontogenic tumor.

Metastatic tumors to the jawbones are uncommon. Metastatic lesions to the oro-facial region may be the first evidence of dissemination of an unknown tumor from its primary site. Follicular thyroid carcinoma rarely presents initially as a distant metastatic lesion within the mandible.

Combined clinical and radiological prognostic model in acute ischemic stroke.

We sought to propose and test the validity ofa comprehensive prognostic model in middle cerebral artery-stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis. A total of 127 consecutive patients (aged 70 +/- 12 years; 54% males) were included in this retrospective study. Variables included in our prognostic model were: NIHSS on admission (1-3 points), occurrence of hyperdense middle cerebral artery sign and early ischemic signs on baseline CT (1 point each), NIHSS at 24 hours (0-3 points), posttreatment hemorrhage (1 point), and infarct volume (0-4 points).
