Adult cutaneous T-cell lymphoma is an uncommon malignancy with poor prognosis and is usually seen in association with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1. We present the case of a 25-year-old female who gave a history of extensive whole-body polypoidal cutaneous and bilateral orbital and breast swellings. Biopsy was suggestive of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and the patient was evaluated with F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography and computed tomography for initial staging of the disease.

Hepatobiliary involvement is a less common manifestation of abdominal tuberculosis. We present the case of a 42-year-old female who presented with fever, abdominal pain, and jaundice of 2 months duration. F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography done for disease evaluation suggested the likely possibility of cholangiocarcinoma but excision biopsy from periportal lymph node later confirmed a granulomatous etiology and she was successfully treated with antitubercular therapy.

The high flux density of synchrotron white beam offers several advantages in X-ray imaging such as higher resolution and signal-to-noise ratio in 3D/4D micro-tomography, higher frame rate in real-time imaging of transient phenomena, and higher penetration in thick and dense materials especially at higher energies. However, these advantages come with additional challenges to beamline optics, camera and sample due to increased heat load and radiation damage, and to personal safety due to higher radiation dose and ozone gas hazards. In this work, a white beam imaging facility at imaging beamline BL-4, Indus-2, has been developed, while taking care of various instrumental and personal safety challenges.

The paper reports the development of a RF ion source-based transportable compact neutron generator and its application in detecting special nuclear material using the differential die away approach. We present experimental results for the detection of nuclear material in a low-density metallic matrix using an in-house developed 14 MeV (D-T) neutron generator. We have used multi-linear regression for accurately determining the quantity of fissile material even with a small data set.

The combined response of exclusion of solar ultraviolet radiation (UV-A+B and UV-B) and static magnetic field (SMF) pre-treatment of 200 mT for 1 h were studied on soybean () leaves using synchrotron imaging. The seeds of soybean with and without SMF pre-treatment were sown in nursery bags kept in iron meshes where UV-A+B (280-400 nm) and UV-B (280-315 nm) from solar radiation were filtered through a polyester filters. Two controls were planned, one with polythene filter controls (FC)- which allows all the UV (280-400 nm); the other control had no filter used (open control-OC).

We report a case of a massive primary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) involving the right lower lobe adhering esophagus with small synchronous PSP on the superior segment of the left lower lobe with concurrent mutation for B-RAF proto-oncogene, serine/threonine kinase (BRAF V600E), and phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) gene in a young female. She underwent right lower lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection under single lung ventilation with tumor-free margins on diagnosis-based findings of preoperative computed tomography-guided biopsy and positron emission tomography. Histopathology was suggestive of PSP-papillary variant with concurrent mutation of BRAF V600E and PTEN genes.

This study investigates the effect of static magnetic field (SMF) pre-treatment in ameliorating arsenic (As) toxicity in soybean plants in relation to growth, photosynthesis and water transport through leaf venation. Soybean (Glycine max variety JS-9560) seeds pre-treated with SMF (200 mT for 1 h) were grown in four levels of arsenate-polluted soil (As(V); 0, 5, 10 and 50 mg kg ) in order to find out the impact of magnetopriming on plant tolerance against As toxicity. Quantitative image analysis of soybean leaf venation showed a narrowing in the width of midrib with increasing As(V) contamination in non-primed seeds.

Flame-retardant polyurethane foams are potential packing materials for the transport casks of highly active nuclear materials for shock absorption and insulation purposes. Exposure of high doses of gamma radiation causes cross-linking and chain sectioning of macromolecules in this polymer foam, which leads to reorganization of their cellular microstructure and thereby variations in physico-mechanical properties. In this study, in-house-developed flame-retardant rigid polyurethane foam samples were exposed to gamma irradiation doses in the 0-20 kGy range and synchrotron radiation X-ray micro-computed tomography (SR-µCT) imaging was employed for the analysis of radiation-induced morphological variations in their cellular microstructure.

High energy X-ray phase contrast tomography is tremendously beneficial to the study of thick and dense materials with poor attenuation contrast. Recently, the X-ray speckle-based imaging technique has attracted widespread interest because multimodal contrast images can now be retrieved simultaneously using an inexpensive wavefront modulator and a less stringent experimental setup. However, it is time-consuming to perform high resolution phase tomography with the conventional step-scan mode because the accumulated time overhead severely limits the speed of data acquisition for each projection.

Ore minerals in dolomites and Graphite Mica Schist (GMS) were studied by synchrotron radiation micro-computed tomography (SR-μCT) and optical microscopy. High resolution μCT images of ore minerals were obtained at Imaging Beamline (BL-4), Indus-2 synchrotron radiation source for the comprehensive volume characterization of minerals. Availability of microfocus X-ray sources and high resolution X-ray area detectors has made it possible for high resolution microtomography studies to be performed outside the purview of synchrotron. In this paper, we present the work towards the use of an external shutter on a high resolution microtomography system using X-ray CCD camera as a detector. During micro computed tomography experiments, the X-ray source is continuously ON and owing to the readout mechanism of the CCD detector electronics, the detector registers photons reaching it during the read-out period too.
