Mothers' Perceptions About Childbirth Preparation Classes: A Qualitative Study.

Background: Childbirth preparation classes are designed for better adaptation of couples to physiological and psychological changes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Therefore, we aimed to explore the mothers' perceptions about childbirth preparation classes.

Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using the conventional qualitative content analysis method from May to August 2022.

Discerning pig screams in production environments.

Pig vocalisations convey information about their current state of health and welfare. Continuously monitoring these vocalisations can provide useful information for the farmer. For instance, pig screams can indicate stressful situations.

Performance of an image analysis processing system for hen tracking in an environmental preference chamber.

Image processing systems have been widely used in monitoring livestock for many applications, including identification, tracking, behavior analysis, occupancy rates, and activity calculations. The primary goal of this work was to quantify image processing performance when monitoring laying hens by comparing length of stay in each compartment as detected by the image processing system with the actual occurrences registered by human observations. In this work, an image processing system was implemented and evaluated for use in an environmental animal preference chamber to detect hen navigation between 4 compartments of the chamber.

Different stressors elicit different responses in the salivary biomarkers cortisol, haptoglobin, and chromogranin A in pigs.

Most commonly, salivary cortisol is used in pig stress assessment, alternative salivary biomarkers are scarcely studied. Here, salivary cortisol and two alternative salivary biomarkers, haptoglobin and chromogranin A were measured in a pig stress study. Treatment pigs (n = 24) were exposed to mixing and feed deprivation, in two trials, and compared to untreated controls (n = 24).
