Role of pyroptosis in liver diseases.

Pyroptosis is known as a novel form of pro-inflammatory cell death program, which is exceptional from other types of cell death programs. Particularly, pyroptosis is characterized by Gasdermin family-mediated pore formation and subsequently cellular lysis, also release of several pro-inflammatory intracellular cytokines. In terms of mechanism, there are two signaling pathways involved in pyroptosis, including caspase-1, and caspase-4/5/11 mediated pathways.
