Methods: Cleft palate-like lesions were induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by extracting the right maxillary first molars and drilling the intact alveolar bone. Medium chain length polyhydroxyalkanoate (MCL-PHA), a biodegradable and biocompatible material, has a mechanical characteristic of hyper-elasticity, comparable to elastomeric material with similar properties to human tendon flexibility. The aim of the present study was to optimize a masculinization platform for the production of all-male red tilapia fry by oral administration of 30 and 60 ppm of MT and alkyl polyglucoside nanostructured lipid carriers (APG-NLC) loaded with MT, respectively, for 14 and 21 days. The characterization, encapsulation efficiency and release kinetics of MT in lipid-based nanoparticles were assessed in vitro. The results showed that the MT-loaded nanoparticles were spherical, ranging from 80 to 125 nm in size, and had a negative charge with a narrow particle distribution.

The purpose of this study was to investigate a possible translocation pathway of intratracheally instilled gold nanoparticles after the induction of acute pulmonary injury by Asian sand dust. ICR mice were intratracheally instilled with 800μg Asian sand particles (CJ-2 particles) 24h before instillation of 50-nm gold nanoparticles. Lungs from mice treated with Asian sand particles and gold nanoparticles showed an acute focal inflammation with an increased expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TNF-α) and oxidative stress markers (Cu/Zn SOD and iNOS) in alveolar macrophages, type I alveolar epithelial cells, and endothelial cells at the alveolar walls.
