Pembrolizumab-containing regimens are the standard first-line treatment for recurrent/metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (R/M HNSCC). The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) have been reported to be important prognostic factors in a variety of carcinomas, but none have been investigated in combination with pembrolizumab and chemotherapy or in first-line treatment. Seventy-four patients with R/M HNSCC received pembrolizumab-containing regimens at Tohoku University Hospital, Sendai, Japan, from April 2020 to March 2023.

Therefore, new technologies and strategies should be developed to reduce salt intake without compromising taste. However, the underlying physiological mechanisms of salt taste reception is complex and not completely understood.

Methods: We designed and screened 54 amido-bridged nucleic acid (AmNA)-modified ASOs, selecting them based on PCDHA11-knockdown efficacy, in vitro and in vivo activity, and off-target effects. We assessed the impact of AmNA-modified anti-PCDHA11 ASOs on cellular functions and signaling pathways, and investigated the effects of Pcdha11 deficiency in mice.

Introduction: While the provision of unapproved regenerative medicine has been problematic worldwide, few studies have examined the implementation status of regenerative medicine (RM) in the specific field. This study aimed to determine the current status of therapy and clinical research in the obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) in Japan under the Act on the Safety of Regenerative Medicine (RM Act).
Methods: Detailed data were extracted from publicly available websites provided by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare.
Histiocytic neoplasms (HNs) in adults have been reported to be associated with a high prevalence of coexisting haematological and solid malignancies. While a proportion of coexisting HNs and haematological malignancies share identical genetic alterations, the genetic association between HNs and solid malignancies has scarcely been reported. We report a case of Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) complicated by coexisting clear cell sarcoma (CCS).

Integrating artificial nucleic acids into gapmer ASOs enhances their therapeutic efficacy. Among these, amido-bridged nucleic acid (AmNA) stands out for its potential to confer high affinity and stability to ASOs.

Since the feeding center is located in the hypothalamus, it is a major target for understanding the mechanism of age-related changes in eating behavior and metabolism. To obtain insight into the age-related changes in gene expression in the hypothalamus, we investigated genes whose expression changes with age in the hypothalamus.

Materials And Methods: Three self-adhesive resin luting cements (SRLCs) were used with universal adhesives as primers. Twelve specimens per group were prepared to measure shear bond strength (SBS) under distinct luting strategies in etch-&-rinse and self-etch modes.
Dyspnea is one of the most common and distressing symptoms in patients with cancer and noncancer advanced diseases. The Japanese Society for Palliative Medicine revised previous guidelines for the management of respiratory symptoms in patients with cancer and newly developed clinical guidelines for managing dyspnea in patients with advanced disease, based on the result of systematic reviews for each clinical question and consensus among experts. We describe the recommendations of the guidelines as well as provide insights into the reasoning behind the recommendations and their development process.

However, their effective delivery to the target tissues and cells remains a challenge, necessitating the development of suitable drug delivery technologies for ASOs to enable their practical application. In this study, we synthesized a library of chemically modified dipeptide-ASO conjugates using a recent synthetic method based on the Ugi reaction.

An important outstanding question concerns the presence or absence of the 1/9 magnetization plateau, where exotic quantum states, including topological ones, are expected to emerge. Here we report the magnetization of a recently discovered kagome QSL candidate YCu_{3}(OH)_{6.

Some studies have suggested a correlation between efficacy and CVAEs; however, further evidence is required. This study evaluated real-world data concerning the frequency and degree of CVAEs and possible associations between CVAEs and efficacy in such patients.

We verified the significance of GWMS as a predictive factor for the efficacy of anti-EGFR antibodies in the second-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer.
Methods: Clinical data were obtained from a prospective trial database, and a genome-wide DNA methylation analysis was performed.
The enzymatic synthesis of xenobiotic nucleic acids (XNA), which are artificially sugar-modified nucleic acids, is essential for the preparation of XNA libraries. XNA libraries are used in the selection of XNA aptamers and enzymes (XNAzymes). Efficient enzymatic synthesis of various XNAs can enable the screening of high-quality XNA aptamers and XNAzymes by expanding the diversity of XNA libraries and adding a variety of properties to XNA aptamers and XNAzymes.

We therefore investigated the mechanism underlying COVID-19 exacerbation induced by auto-abs to type I IFNs.
Methods: We evaluated plasma from 123 patients with COVID-19 to measure auto-abs to type I IFNs.
Three thioflavin T (ThT) derivatives, namely ThT/ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid conjugates (E1T, E2T, and E1T1P), were designed and synthesized as sensing components for divalent metal ion detection. Furthermore, these ThT derivatives were used to design lantern-type G-quadruplex (G4) fluorescent sensors. The fluorescence intensities of the ThT derivatives decreased by 1.

During cancer chemotherapy, the accumulation of ascites can lead to the deterioration of the patient's general condition, making chemotherapy administration difficult, and resulting in a poor prognosis. We encountered a rare case of chylous ascites complicated by advanced pancreatic cancer.

Recent observations of anomalous planar thermal Hall effect demonstrate a topological edge mode, but whether it originates from Majorana fermions or bosonic magnons remains controversial. Here, we distinguish these origins from combined low-temperature measurements of high-resolution specific heat and thermal Hall conductivity with rotating magnetic fields within the honeycomb plane.

To address this problem, we developed a light-triggered twistable tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivative, TPE-C-N, to facilitate the intracellular delivery of charged molecules through an endocytosis-independent pathway. The central double bond of TPE in TPE-C-N is planar in the ground state but becomes twisted in the excited state.
