We reviewed the outcomes of truncus arteriosus repair (primary vs. staged repair incorporating bilateral pulmonary artery banding), focusing on survival, reintervention, and functional data. We analyzed 39 patients who underwent a first intervention for truncus arteriosus (staged, n = 19; primary, n = 20) between 1992 and 2022.

Methods: Between February and March 2023, 10,000 workers responded to a web-based, cross-sectional survey on health problems that interfered with their work, degree of presenteeism, and teleworking status.
Results: Approximately 35.
Electromagnetic whistler-mode chorus waves are a key driver of variations in energetic electron fluxes in the Earth's magnetosphere through the wave-particle interaction. Traditionally understood as a diffusive process, these interactions account for long-term electron flux variations (> several minutes). However, theories suggest that chorus waves can also cause rapid (< 1 s) electron acceleration and significant flux variations within less than a second through a nonlinear wave-particle interaction.

Background: We have developed a new hybrid warp-knit fabric for induction of in situ tissue regeneration that has shown appropriate antideterioration properties and expandability in preclinical studies. This study was performed to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of this fabric in the early postoperative period after congenital cardiac surgery.
Methods: The fabric comprises biodegradable (complete degradation period, 2-3 years) and nonbiodegradable yarns coated with cross-linked gelatin.
Three-dimensional (3D) printing is an advanced technology for accurately understanding anatomy and supporting the successful surgical management of complex congenital heart disease (CHD). We aimed to evaluate whether our super-flexible 3D heart models could facilitate preoperative decision-making and surgical simulation for complex CHD. The super-flexible heart models were fabricated by stereolithography 3D printing of the internal and external contours of the heart from cardiac computed tomography (CT) data, followed by vacuum casting with a polyurethane material similar in elasticity to a child's heart.

However, the indication criteria for fenestration remain under discussion. To assess the effectiveness of fenestration in Fontan circulation, we conducted a theoretical analysis using a computational model of the fenestrated Fontan circulation.

HKR1 overexpression confers S. cerevisiae cells with resistance to the HM-1 killer toxin produced by the killer yeast Hansenula mrakii (currently known as Cyberlindnera mrakii).

In this study, we performed a theoretical analysis using a computational model to clarify the effects of systemic ventricular assist device (VAD) in failing Fontan patients. Cardiac chambers and vascular systems were described using the time-varying elastance model and modified Windkessel model, respectively.

One of the characteristics of NP is comorbidity of symptoms other than pain, such as psychological and cognitive problems; therefore, these can be clues to understanding NP. Recently, we reported several cases with comorbid symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

This study aimed to clarify the associations between age-related physical activity and performance in skill learning tasks based on cognitive function.
Methods: Fifty-eight adults participated in this study and were divided into two groups: the control group (aged under 65 years) and older adult group (aged over 65).
Right ventricular dysfunction is a key clinical issue for the viability of donation-after-circulatory-death (DCD) heart transplantation. DCD hearts with volume overload have the potential to exhibit aggravated right ventricular dysfunction following heart transplantation. The c-jun/c-fos mRNAs are genes that immediately respond to myocardial cell stretch.

Core fucosylation is catalyzed by α-1,6-fucosyltransferase (FUT8), which fucosylates the innermost GlcNAc of N-glycans. Given the association of FUT8 with various diseases, including cancer, selective FUT8 inhibitors applicable to in vivo or cell-based systems are highly sought-after. Herein, we report the discovery of a compound that selectively inhibits FUT8 in cell-based assays.

Methods: Data were collected from 101 patients, aged 15 - 65 years, undergoing initial IST.
Results: No significant imbalance in age, sex, or severity was observed between the EPAG (n = 20) and non-EPAG (n = 81) groups.
Introduction: Nociplastic pain (NP), classified as a third type of pain alongside nociceptive and neuropathic pain, is chronic pain arising from the amplification of nociceptive stimuli through central sensitization, despite the absence of tissue damage, sensory nerve damage, or disease. An important clinical feature of NP is that it is not only associated with pain but also with sensory hypersensitivity to sound and light and cognitive dysfunction, including mood and attention disorders. Recent studies have suggested that depression and developmental disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), coexist with NP at high frequency.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOpenPose-based motion analysis (OpenPose-MA), utilizing deep learning methods, has emerged as a compelling technique for estimating human motion. It addresses the drawbacks associated with conventional three-dimensional motion analysis (3D-MA) and human visual detection-based motion analysis (Human-MA), including costly equipment, time-consuming analysis, and restricted experimental settings. This study aims to assess the precision of OpenPose-MA in comparison to Human-MA, using 3D-MA as the reference standard.

Daily, numerous patients have medical devices implanted or inserted within their bodies. While medical devices have significantly improved patient outcomes, as foreign objects, their wider use can lead to an increase in device-related infections, thereby imposing a burden on healthcare systems.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFActin rearrangement and phosphorylation-dephosphorylation in the nervous system contribute to plastic alteration of neuronal structure and function. Phosphatase and actin regulator (PHACTR) family members are actin- and protein phosphatase 1 (PP1)-binding proteins. Because some family members act as regulators of neuronal morphology, studying the regulatory mechanisms of PHACTR is valuable for understanding the basis of neuronal circuit formation.

However, these injuries are often characterized by exaggerated inflammation, which can disrupt bone-muscle crosstalk, thereby seriously delaying the healing of either tissue. Existing approaches are largely effective at healing single tissues.

Research Question: This study aimed to investigate and compare the abductor hallucis muscle (AbdH) activity during SFE in static and dynamic functional tasks.
Methods: The AbdH electromyography data of 17 healthy participants with and without SFE were analyzed during static tasks (sitting, double-leg standing, and single-leg standing) and dynamic tasks (double-leg squat, single-leg squat, split squat, and heel-raise).
