The composite microspectrophotometric study of the content of DNA, PAS-positive, alcian-positive substances, lipids, and the activity of succinate dehydrogenase and ascorbic acid in the cervical epithelium normally and in cancer tumors showed preinvasive forms of cancer to be characterized by increased polyploidy, content of DNA and lipids, and increased activity of succinate dehydrogenase, and decreased content of glycogen, acid mucopolysaccharides and ascorbic acid. Invasive forms of cancer are characterized by more marked changes in these values.

Histochemical study of some enzymatic systems was conducted in various form of goiter. A study was made of the thyroid gland tissue obtained during the operation in 96 patients. Euthyrosis was accompanied by a decrease in the succinic dehydrogenase, cytochromoxidase, iodide peroxidase, acid and alkaline phosphatase activity.

It was shown that thyreo-toxic strumas were characterized by a very small amount of neutral lipids in the apical part of thyreocytes and some small amount in the stroma. The greatest amount of lipids (predominantly acid ones, free fatty acids and soaps) were identified in euthyroid macro-microfollicular strumas which were characterized by cystic degeneration of the glandular parenchyma and by a marked process of desquamation of the follicular epithelium.
