The paper presents the results of a study of the impact of large-scale solid waste storage on ascariasis morbidity in the population. The use of sewage sediments as an organic soil fertilizer to grow strawberries and table greens is shown to substantially increase the risk of Ascaris infection in the population. Storage of solid domestic garbage on specialized dumping grounds does not lead to mass environmental pollution with geohelminthic eggs.

This paper shows it possible to use geoinformational systems for mapping and analyzing medical statistical data on those with malignant laryngeal neoplasms. The fact that the distribution of the patients can be shown on the map of a town in relation to the location of their houses (if they have an address) allows differentiation of the ecological living conditions of these patients, which in turn makes it possible to put not only high morbidity areas on the map of a town, but also to consider the characteristics of the environment in these areas.

Low level of provision of various population groups with animal proteins, poor choice of foodstuffs for common and dietetic use, inefficiency of meat and milk processing, loss of foodstuff quality as a result of industrial production determine the range of priority problems to be solved by specialists in nutrition hygiene. One of the main and most rapid approaches to solution of these problems is more rational utilization of the foodstuff potential created in the country for nutrition, but the chemical, sensory, and organoleptic properties of the manufactured foodstuffs do not always ensure their high biological value. Department of Hygiene of Nutrition, I.

Functional properties of blood vessel prostheses to large degree depend on the longitudinal elasticity of their walls. Theoretical foundations for designing the physico-chemical properties of prostheses walls were worked out, and special methods and measuring apparatuses. New types of vascular textile prostheses make it possible to model biological tissues.

Biomechanical properties of the coronary arteries were studied according to age and localization of the vascular segment. Experiments were conducted on the proximal and distal segments of the right coronary artery and the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery in 58 males who ranged in age from 15 to 83 years. Vascular segments prestretched in the longitudinal direction experience an inner pressure of 0 to 240 mm Hg.

Experimental investigations into mechanical properties of cerebral arterial vessels of different localization and changes in these properties with age were effected. An analysis of the data obtained showed that the anatomic localization, the biochemical composition and age-specific changes affect the mechanical properties of the walls in these vessels. The available information is of importance in solving some tissues concerned with the pathogenesis of the cerebral circulation disorders and in vasal neurosurgery.
