Bexmarilimab-induced macrophage activation leads to treatment benefit in solid tumors: The phase I/II first-in-human MATINS trial.

Macrophage Clever-1 contributes to impaired antigen presentation and suppression of anti-tumor immunity. This first-in-human trial investigates the safety and tolerability of Clever-1 blockade with bexmarilimab in patients with treatment-refractory solid tumors and assesses preliminary anti-tumor efficacy, pharmacodynamics, and immunologic correlates. Bexmarilimab shows no dose-limiting toxicities in part I (n = 30) and no additional safety signals in part II (n = 108).

The nature of co-morbid psychopathology in adolescents with gender dysphoria.

Gender-referred adolescents (GR) have been reported to present with considerable psychiatric symptomatology compared to their age-peers. There is, however, little research on how they compare to adolescents referred due to mental health problems (MHR). We set out to compare psychopathology in adolescents referred to our specialized gender identity unit (n = 84) and adolescents referred to a general adolescent psychiatric clinic (n = 293) in a university hospital setting in Finland.

Effects of a home-based, exergaming intervention on physical function and pain after total knee replacement in older adults: a randomised controlled trial.

Objectives: To investigate the effects of 4 months of customised, home-based exergaming on physical function and pain after total knee replacement (TKR) compared with standard exercise protocol.

Methods: In this non-blinded randomised controlled trial, 52 individuals aged 60-75 years undergoing TKR were randomised into an exergaming (intervention group, IG) or a standard exercising group (control group, CG). Primary outcomes were physical function and pain measured before and after (2 months and 4 months) surgery using the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and Timed Up and Go (TUG) test.

Preoperative Posterior Tilt Increases the Risk of Later Conversion to Arthroplasty After Osteosynthesis for Femoral Neck Fracture.

Methods: We collected 341 longitudinal head circumference (HC) measurements of hydrocephalic infants and 120 181 measurements of 15 145 healthy infants from primary care. Dreaming and awareness during dexmedetomidine- and propofol-induced unresponsiveness.

Background: Experiences during anaesthetic-induced unresponsiveness have previously been investigated by interviews after recovery. To explore whether experiences occur during drug administration, we interviewed participants during target-controlled infusion (TCI) of dexmedetomidine or propofol and after recovery.

Methods: Healthy participants received dexmedetomidine (n=23) or propofol (n=24) in stepwise increments until loss of responsiveness (LOR1).

Poor 10-year survivorship of hip resurfacing arthroplasty.

Background and purpose - In a previous registry report, short-term implant survival of hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) in Finland was found to be comparable to that of total hip arthroplasty (THA). Since then, it has become evident that adverse reactions to metal debris (ARMDs) may also be associated with HRA, not only with large-diameter head metal-on-metal THA. The aim of the study was to assess medium- to long-term survivorship of HRA based on the Finnish Arthroplasty Register (FAR).

Freedom Constrained Liner for the Treatment and Prevention of Dislocation in Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Background And Purpose: Dislocation is one of the most common complications following total hip arthroplasty. The aim of our study was to assess failure rate of the Biomet Freedom constrained liner (Biomet, Warsaw, IN, USA) either in revision surgery for recurrent dislocation, or as a preventive method in high dislocation risk patients.

Patients And Methods: We assessed retrospectively 105 consecutive surgical procedures in 103 patients where a Freedom constrained liner or cup was used in Turku University Hospital over a 7-year period from 2007 to 2014.

Seizure control in Unverricht-Lundborg disease: a single-centre study.

New antiepileptic drug (AED) options for generalised seizure types have been adopted for use as treatment for Unverricht-Lundborg disease. Whether this has led to improved seizure control or functional outcome in ULD patients remains obscure. We retrospectively identified all patients seen at Helsinki University Hospital due to Unverricht-Lundborg disease during 2003-2008 in order to determine which AED treatments had been retained for long-term use.

Indices of relative weight and obesity.

Analyses are reported on the correlation with height and with subcutaneous fat thickness of relative weight expressed as per cent of average weight at given height, and of the ratios weight/height, weight/height squared, and the ponderal index (cube root of weight divided by height) in 7424 ‘healthy’ men in 12 cohorts in five countries. Analyses are also reported on the relationship of those indicators of relative weight to body density in 180 young men and in 248 men aged 49–59. Judged by the criteria of correlation with height (lowest is best) and to measures of body fatness (highest is best), the ponderal index is the poorest of the relative weight indices studied.

Elevated head circumference-to-height ratio is an early and frequent feature in children with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Background/aims: Children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) tend to be macrocephalic and short. Our aim was to define the incidence and diagnostic accuracy of elevated head circumference-to-height ratio (HCHR) in children with NF1 and to assess if elevated HCHR would facilitate early diagnosis of NF1.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of growth and health data of 80 NF1 patients aged 0-7 years was performed.

The incidence of type 2 diabetes is increasing among Finnish young adults. A slightly increased risk in men was found in the north-east and western part of the country. The higher risk areas in women were found in the western coastal area and in eastern Finland.

Genetics of head circumference in infancy: a longitudinal study of Japanese twins.

Objectives: Previous studies have shown strong genetic influence to head circumference (HC), but still little is known on the development of genetic etiology of HC in infancy, especially in non-Caucasian populations. Thus, we decided to analyze the genetics of HC growth in Japanese infants.

Methods: Longitudinal measures of HC were available from birth to 13 months of age in 206 monozygotic and 156 dizygotic complete twin pairs.
