Article Synopsis
  • Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) use low-voltage shock impedance to check lead integrity, but this method may miss dangerous insulation breaches that can lead to electrical shorts.
  • The study presents six cases where insulation issues in defibrillation leads went undetected during regular tests, leading to severe complications including total ICD generator failure and dangerous heart rhythms.
  • The findings suggest that relying solely on low-voltage shock tests is inadequate, and traditional high-voltage testing should be considered during device replacement to ensure patient safety.

Carbon dots have been extensively used for the development of fluorescent based molecular affinity sensors. However, label free DNA sensing by electrochemical method is not reported so far. Herein, we report carbon dots stabilized silver nanoparticles (CD-AgNPs) lipid nano hybrids as a sensitive and selective platform for label free electrochemical DNA sensing.

Pacemakers can be directly involved in initiating or sustaining different forms of arrhythmia. These can cause symptoms such as dyspnea, palpitations, and decompensated heart failure. Early detection of these arrhythmias and optimal pacemaker programming is pivotal.

Objectives: To determine permanent pacemaker (PPM) dependency following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with the Lotus valve system (Boston Scientific), and the impact of PPM implantation on long-term morbidity and mortality.

Background: Conduction abnormalities are among the most common complications following TAVR. Limited studies have assessed pacing dependency following TAVR.

Here, we discuss the case of a man with a history of ischemic cardiomyopathy and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator implantation, who presented to emergency department with decompensated heart failure due to the loss of resynchronization therapy. The reason for the malfunction was left ventricle upper rate interval lock-in due to inappropriate programming of the device.

We discuss a 46-year-old man with history of hypertension and inferior wall myocardial infarction and mild left ventricular dysfunction who presented with aborted sudden cardiac death due to episodes of ventricular tachyarrhythmia detected by a Reveal-LINQ which had been implanted one year prior to presentation.

Fabrication of nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) electrode for the screening of purine metabolic disorder was described in this paper. Peroxynitrite is a short-lived oxidant species that is a potent inducer of cell death. Uric acid (UA) can scavenge the peroxynitrite to avoid the formation of nitrotyrosine, which is formed from the reaction between peroxynitrite and tyrosine (Try).
