In this study, we examined the feasibility of culturing rabbit and human buccal mucosal epithelial cells in a novel thermoreversible gelation polymer (TGP) scaffold, without feeder layers or other foreign proteins.
Methods & Results: The results of this 28-day culture, u sing the conventional technique (2D) and TGP (3D) showed that the epithelial cell morphology could be maintained only in the TGP group while cells in the 2D group de-differentiated to fibroblast morphology in both human and rabbit samples.
Purpose: McCarey-Kaufman's (MK) medium and Optisol-GS medium are the most commonly employed media for human donor corneal preservation. In this study, we evaluated the preservation efficacy of discarded human donor corneas using a Thermo-reversible gelation polymer (TGP) added to these two media.
Methods: Thirteen human corneal buttons collected from deceased donors, which were otherwise discarded due to low endothelial cell density (ECD) were used.
We report the modular design and synthesis of an amine dangled Schiff base quinoline-morpholine conjugate (QMC) for highly selective detection of Pb ions via fluorimetry. The sensing strategy of QMC towards Pb ion exhibits a large blue shift with fluorescent enhancement via the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) process. At the same time, QMC coordination with Pb, the CN single bond rotation between quinoline and morpholine rings and the CN isomerization process were blocked.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: We evaluated the expression of stem/progenitor biomarkers in osteoarthritic tissue derived chondrocytes cultured using a three-dimensional (3D) thermo-reversible gelation polymer (TGP).
Methods: The chondrocytes from discarded biopsy tissues obtained from human elderly patients with osteoarthritis were cultured using the 3D-TGP up to six weeks.
Results: The chondrocytes grew in a tissue-like manner, without de-differentiation into fibroblasts, and the cells thus tissue-engineered were proven positive for CD49e, OCT4, CD-105 and STRO-1 by immunohistochemistry.
In this study, we reported the biological approach to synthesis of ZnO nanorod (NR) on the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) for photocatalytic, antibacterial activity and hydrogen production under sunlight. Bacillus subtilis played a vital role in the production of biogenic ammonia from synthetic urine and utilized for the synthesis of ZnONR on the RGO sheet. The morphological study revealed that RGO sheets displayed a tremendous role in anchoring ZnONR.

There is a marked increase in circulating leptin concentrations and inflammatory markers such as Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) in AMI patients but still the association of leptin with inflammation during AMI is not known. The present study suggest that elevated levels of leptin might elicit the risk for CVD by signaling for the secretion of inflammatory cytokines especially, TNF-α.

We prepared stable colloidal suspension graphene in aqueous medium by surface modification of graphene with 4-benzenediazonium sulfonate. The sulfonate group on graphene surface interacts with water, exhibits well dispersibility and which prevents the aggregation even at neutral pH. Given the fact in the limitation of the therapeutic options for emerging multidrug resistance gram-negative bacteria (MDR-GNB) of respiratory tract infections, the present study was focused on green synthesis of antimicrobial silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using leaf extract of Mukia scabrella. An obvious color change to brown color and surface plasmon resonance by UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) indicated a well observable peak at 440 nm confirming the synthesis of AgNPs. Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis indicates protein as possible capping agents.
